GENERAL PURPOSE
Assistant in supervising and directing the activities associated with maintaining water lines, sewer lines, sanitary sewer manholes, fire hydrants, lift stations, pumps and other items associated with the maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure. Performs a variety of administrative and supervisory, skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Water and Sewer Maintenance Division.

Responsible for the Supervision of laborers, equipment operators, and temporary employees as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises and participates in the repair of water and sewer lines, manholes, fire hydrants, Lift stations
- Instructs subordinates in proper use of equipment and materials.
- Supervises and performs routine inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs needed to the water and sewer maintenance supervisor.
- Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances; Performs or assists subordinates in performing duties; adjusts errors and complaints.
- Supervises and performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs the duties of the Water and Sewer Maintenance Supervisor during the Supervisors absence.
- Assures that tools and equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working condition. Responds to public inquiries; provides information within scope of knowledge and position.
- Operates heavy machinery which includes but not limited to: backhoe, track hoe, jet machine, vactor and camera trailer.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
- Five years' experience in Water and Sewer Maintenance.
- Any equivalent combination or relevant education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in Water and Sewer Maintenance; heavy construction equipment: safety practices and procedures.
- Skill in: the operation of tools and equipment including backhoes, tractors, track hoes, and dump trucks, Jet truck and vactor.
- Ability to: lead a crew of workers in the completion of projects; determine the materials and workers needed; maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Instruct subordinates in work procedures.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid State, Class B, Commercial Driver's License
- Valid - Water Distribution Operator C License
- Valid - Wastewater Collection Operator I License
