Job Description

This position leads the development of HVAC and building systems designs that are an integral part of feasibility studies, conceptual designs and early basic design packages prepared by the Global Project Development Studio team for new facilities. This is a client-facing technical role and reports to the head of the PDS in Greenville South Carolina. The HVAC SME may have direct reports that are skilled additional technical specialties such as building utilities, building energy modeling (BEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

The PDS is a global team of subject matter experts, process architects, process, and equipment engineers within the ATLS Division of Fluor. Our team serves the life sciences, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, data center and battery manufacturing industries. It delivers as many as fifty projects per year.

The essential job duties for this position are as follows:

• Development of thermal load calculations.
• Evaluate and propose optimum building orientation and envelope composition.
• Establish appropriate ACH and ISO classifications to support operations.
• Apply exceptional design techniques for highly potent or cytotoxic products.
• Use monitoring and safety in design practices to manage VOCs.
• Use psychometric analysis to identify ways to recover and reuse energy.
• Coordinate with Architecture to develop classification and pressure cascade diagrams.
• Develop conceptual sizing of air handling units, exhaust, and other related systems.
• Specify materials of construction for ductwork, based upon application.
• Specify freezers and refrigeration units.
• Develop descriptions for BAS or BMS systems.
• Support the preparation of LEED score cards.
• Evaluate the use of heat pumps and other technologies to secure LEED points.
• Provide clients with technical advice. Build client relationships through credibility.
• Participate in sales pursuits as needed.
• Coordinate the design transition between feasibility and conceptual design and from conceptual design to basic design.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Requirements

• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and ten (10) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• A Professional Engineer's license is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
• Managing and leading a large project
• Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
• Demonstrate an elevated level of technical knowledge in one or more of the manufacturing sectors served by ATLS.
• Analytical approach to problem solving and identifying potential solutions.
• Technical and business writing skills
• Basic understanding of design, engineering, procurement, material management, construction, commissioning, start up, turn over work processes, sequencing, and interfaces.
• Ability to resolve problems and to be comfortable in complex projects or business environments.
• Ability to travel periodically to other Fluor offices or client locations in support of projects or routine business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading complex, HVAC and building systems design projects for one or more of the industry segments PDS serves.
• Construction experience and understanding of site organization and construction safety.
• Experience collaborating with permitting authorities.
