This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next East Campus Housing HVAC Technician II who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for East Campus Housing property rentals. This role ensures the proper functioning of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance. The technician will work independently and collaboratively to provide timely repairs, preventive maintenance, and excellent service to tenants while adhering to safety regulations and Amarillo College standards.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Some trade school or technical training in maintenance, HVAC, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair.
Preferred: Four (4) years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a three-year safe driving record.
Preferred: EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 9 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver heavy objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds individually and to lift and or transport objects more than two hundred (200) pounds with the assistant of other workers or appropriate handling equipment. Must be able to stop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or maneuver as required to work in confined spaces such as ceiling areas, sewer manholes, sewage ejector basins, etc. Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time. Must be able to climb and work on ladders or scaffolds as required to inspect repair lines or equipment located in ceiling and walls.
Working Conditions: Work involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous material, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, wet floors, cleaning agents, loud noises, and odors related to dirty houses, pet excrement, human feces and urine can be expected.
Work Environment: This position operates in Amarillo College rental homes and various campus facilities. During the performance of this position, the employee may be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards as well as working in a variety of inclement weather and climatic conditions. Employee may be required to work with minimal to little supervision. Self-sufficiency is critical.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine and emergency repairs to ensure housing units are move-in ready.
- Inventory- identifying and procuring necessary materials used in maintenance operations
- Performs resident maintenance work order requests and preventative maintenance as needed on occupied homes in a timely manner
- Exhibit professional behavior while assisting with the needs of tenants and co-workers
- Comply with all college, state and local procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Completes all work-related paperwork and time sheets in a neat, orderly, and timely manner.
- Coordinates with team leader in completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs additional duties or job functions that are required and deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls.
- Perform HVAC system inspections and manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance.
- Perform major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators.
- Perform seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa.
- Monitor and adjust system set points and output using remote computer links to the building's programmable logic controls. Performs resident maintenance work order requests and preventative maintenance as needed on occupied homes in a timely manner
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.) Available to respond to on-call schedule and events.
