Description

An entry level position. Work at this level provides the employee with the initial work experience and training in the drafting function. Routine and repetitive drafting duties will be with computer aided tools. A good working knowledge of standard drafting techniques, procedures, and equipment is required. Assignments are normally in a single discipline.

Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions.

Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines.

Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Piping Drafter Intern
  • Responsible for studies of limited scope requiring application of prescribed engineering methods.
  • Responsible for assisting engineers and/or leads in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design or computation methods.
  • Solve problems by applying standards and following detailed instructions.

Piping Drafter IV
  • Under close supervision, and in accordance with established practices and techniques, produces standard uncomplicated drawings from rough sketches or instructions or diagrams from detailed sketches.
  • May produce elementary layouts from reference drawings or catalogues; prepare simple plans; complete routine dimensional calculations and finish drawings from uncomplicated mechanical equipment diagrams using computer-aided drafting equipment and techniques including CAD corrections.
  • Minor judgment and initiative may be required in adjusting and accentuating details and in placing names and symbols to ensure balanced and symmetrical work.

Piping Drafter III
  • Produces work of acceptable technical accuracy with general supervision.
  • Performs work according to established practices and guidelines to produce complete drawings of moderate complexity including CAD corrections.
  • Requires initiative and judgment in such matters as selecting, placing, and accentuating detail or in identifying problems.

Piping Drafter II
  • Produces complex and complete drawings, diagrams with a high degree of technical accuracy and normally using CAD equipment and techniques, including CAD corrections.
  • Demonstrates initiative and judgment in such matters as selecting, placing, and accentuating detail or in identifying problems.
  • Exercises initiative in completing recurring assignments independently and judgment in determining which of many methods are applicable in any given situation.

Piping Drafter I
  • Establishes project drafting standards and monitors their adherence plans, and schedules.
  • Allocates work assignments and monitors progress and quality of work.
  • Designs and makes detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and the application of fundamental engineering principles.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL

  • Piping Drafter Intern - Junior or Senior year in high school; No experience required.
  • Piping Drafter IV - High school diploma; No experience required.
  • Piping Drafter III - High school diploma; 2 years' experience required.
  • Piping Drafter II - High school diploma; 4 years' experience required.
  • Piping Drafter I - High school diploma; 6 years' experience required. Certificate needed.
