Summary:

This internship provides recent HVAC program graduates with a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field. Interns will collaborate with experienced technicians to learn about our services, assist with installations and repairs, and apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings.

Ideal for a recent graduate eager to develop practical skills, this role offers exposure to fieldwork, engineering processes, and business operations. Interns will work closely with our operations team, supporting daily construction and service activities while gaining valuable industry insights.

Key Responsibilities:

To observe and assist a qualified Systems Specialist with the following tasks:
  • Controls database, graphics, programming, etc. for sequences as provided by the Design Specialist, project specifications, or other applicable sources. (Distech, Alerton, Tridium, experience preferred)
  • Controls of systems start-up and commissioning including point-to-point checkout on projects as assigned. Verify correct alarm, annunciation, and other actions by equipment, devices, panels, and annunciators of Controls projects.
  • Support installation personnel on project sites.
  • Provide information and support for other contractors on project site.
  • Debug installation issues during both the static and dynamic start up and commissioning of building controls.
  • Support to Climatec and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the controls or special systems operation.
  • Assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems.
  • Provide start up documentation including daily logs, check out logs, commissioning documents, etc. as required for assigned projects.
  • Software backups are created for projects and software development.
  • Service support on existing installations ensuring systems continue to meet existing building occupancy codes.
  • Service support on existing systems ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility's building engineers.
  • Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Preparing of as-built drawings and Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
  • Turnover of projects from Operations Team to Service Team.
  • Assist Sales team during estimating phase including potential product or system demonstrations.
  • As necessary, travel will be required to the job site to complete startup, commissioning and assistance to the onsite personnel to complete the project. This will be on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size, scope, and requirements of the project(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Recent graduate, current student of an accredited HVAC trade school, technical college, or military training program with 0-2 years of experience in HVAC-related work.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, tools, and safety procedures, with at least 6 months of practical training or lab experience.
  • Strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
  • Ability to work in various environments (attics, basements, outdoor spaces).
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with 1+ year of driving experience.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and controls, with 6-12 months of coursework or related experience.
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints and technical schematics, with 1+ year of training or exposure.
  • Previous hands-on experience (e.g., through school projects, part-time work, or internships) totaling at least 3-6 months.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
  • Be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
  • Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Climatec's vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive on company business.
  • Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
