The Injection and Mining Division (IMD) has the responsibility of implementing two major federal environmental programs which were statutorily charged to the Office of Conservation: the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program with federal oversight from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and the Surface Mining Program with federal oversight from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining.
LOCATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:
This position will supervise, manage, direct, and coordinate the technical, managerial, and administrative functions of the Class II, Class III, and Class V salt cavern injection well geologic section of a public safety program pursuant to the Louisiana Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program and certain additional waste disposal activities are regulated under Title 43, Parts XIX and XVII of the Louisiana Administrative Code. This position ensures that projects for subsurface fluid injection is regulated containing Underground Sources of Drinking Water (USDW). Additional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

The maximum listed is the maximum salary a person can make over their career and not the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

A current, permanent status state employee may be required to accept a probational appointment in lieu of promotion. A bachelor's degree in a geoscience field or engineering plus three years of experience in the evaluation of oil and gas drilling, oil and gas production and/or oil and gas transportation, mining engineering or geology; OR
A master's degree in a geoscience field or engineering plus two years of the required specialized experience; OR
A doctorate in a geoscience field or engineering plus one year of the required specialized experience.

- The incumbent provides geological supervision, guidance, and professional expertise as needed in evaluating applications for disposal and injection wells. Supervises and directs staff in administering all relevant rules, regulations, and procedures for application processing.
- Makes decisions regarding the acceptability and validity of applications and after-work well completion reports.
- Assists staff in solving additional technical or administrative problems as needed. Assigns special geology-related projects to appropriate personnel at the request of the Petroleum Scientist Manager.
- Assists others with investigations into the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of new injection wells and facilities.
- Assists in the issuance of compliance orders to the operator of the well, requiring remedial action if necessary to bring the well into compliance with state regulations.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
