Job Title: Energy Manager

Reports To: Director of Operations

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An HVAC or Refrigeration technology certificate or undergraduate degree is preferred.

Certification or Licensure: A valid state-issued driver's license is required. Any CompTIA certification, BAS certification, NICET certification, BICSI certification, FOA certification, Voice/Data/Video Networking certification, State Electrical, Conditioned Air Contractor, FCC Part 97 Amateur Radio, FAA Part 107 Drone operator's license is preferred.

Skills: Technically proficient in electronic repair, software programming communications (voice and data) and energy consumption analysis. Must have working knowledge of Trane, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Carrier i-Vu, Reliable Controls and/or Automated Logic commercial building automation systems. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with principals, directors, coordinators, foreman and technicians to resolve HVAC problems and reduce energy expenses.

Work Experience: Basic knowledge and experience with commercial HVAC equipment and computer networking is required. Knowledge of and experience with solar photovoltaic generation systems and/or electric vehicle charging is preferred.

PRIMARY DUTY:

This position is primarily responsible for regulating school system energy expenses while maintaining temperature and relative humidity conditions conducive to teaching and learning. Services and maintains energy management systems and components, communication network, software and server located in a school system spanning 6,000,000 square feet of conditioned space.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Regularly reviews energy and water purchasing to ensure the school system is taking advantage of the best possible rate structures.

2. Maintains a database of energy and water consumption. Conducts regular analysis of all data and adjusts building automation systems to optimize energy efficiency.

3. Maintains relationships with utility contacts for timely and effective responses to school needs ranging from new construction to immediate urgencies.

4. Works on a daily basis with Assistant Director, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing foremen, departments and schools to ensure optimized learning environments while minimizing expenses.

5. Provides technical support for HVAC and other departments as needed. Helps triage incoming HVAC repair requests during peak periods.

6. Provides technical data to support the specification of new equipment (HVAC, lighting, water heaters, solar, etc.)

7. Budgets and provides projections for future energy and water consumption and expense.

8. Provides cost avoidance information to upper-level managers.

9. Recommends energy efficiency improvements.

10. Serves as the primary point of contact with utilities and energy building automation systems vendors.

11. Must maintain working relationships with vendors, internal and external customers to the benefit of Richmond County School System.

12. Perform or assist in the implementation of system upgrades or new installations.

13. Applies for commercial energy efficiency rebates and assists in applying for grants.

14. Program, troubleshoot and support department and school based two-way radios.

15. Operate drone to capture video images.

16. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires traveling to various sites on a frequent and unscheduled basis. Must be available after regularly scheduled working hours, weekends, nights, and holidays, as needed.
