Who You Are / Your Next ChallengeWe have a great opportunity for a results driven, confident and commercial individual to join PetroChina international (London) as a Senior LNG Analyst based in our London office. The position will be responsible for connecting data, analysis, and market information to the LNG Trading team to create and distribute a consistent, comprehensive and trusted view of the global LNG market.
The principal customer is the LNG trading desk in London, but also the global network of trading desks and analysts (including Singapore, Beijing, Calgary etc.). This role primarily supports the Atlantic Basin traders and adds to the company's profitability through the rigorous and systematic construction, maintenance & analysis of models tracking LNG supply & demand fundamentals globally, the understanding of their interaction with price and the interpretation of market developments.
Focus is more on the physical business, although there are overlaps where the derivatives are driven by the same issues. key deliverable is commercial, thought-provoking interpretation of the analysis and what it means for the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Work as part of a team to build, develop and maintain a world class fundamental supply/demand model for the global LNG market.
• Distribute analysis and views in a timely, structured and pro-active manner.
• Perform market analysis on a reactive basis in reaction to requests from the trading desks, in particular with regards to the development of new products/markets and trading strategies.
• Own and drive the development of LNG market analysis work, ensuring analysis is focused on delivering practical business benefits, and that resources are being allocated to the correct priorities.
• Work to integrate analysis into the trader's decision-making process, creating a systematic framework for monetising analysis via profitable trading strategies.
• Devise effective methods of visually displaying the opportunities and risks available in the market.
• Collaboratively and proactively work with the other parts of the global business and external contacts to broaden knowledge and enhance analysis quality and use.
• Utilise technology to increase the efficiency and automation of LNG market analysis including capturing and interpreting data and producing reports/tools for traders.
What we're looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
• Significant experience providing successful LNG market analysis for a trading desk in an energy market trading environment; utilities, producers or trading houses preferred.
• Deep knowledge of the physical and financial LNG markets, also knowledge of the gas and power markets, regulatory issues, and demand.
• Previous work experience in small, high-performance teams a distinct advantage.
• Very strong numerical and analytical skills
• Strategic thinking and practical problem solver.
• A positive attitude, highly self-motivating and able to manage stress are key characteristics for this role.
• Flexibility, innovation, decisiveness, planning and control.
• Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, standard software and software dedicated to the trading activities.
• Knowledge of stochastic modelling techniques such as sensitivity analysis or Monte Carlo simulation.
• Programming skills (e.g., SQL, Python etc.) and experience of utilising large data sets.
• Demonstrable ability to learn new skills and adapt to market developments.
