Job Description

IHI Power Services, Inc. is seeking a Power Plant Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager at our Springdale Generating Station in Springdale, PA.

Job Summary

The position is responsible for engaging every department at the power generating facility for each Health, Safety, and Environmental activity that occurs. The EHS Manager will actively work to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and to assist in achieving profitability and productivity requirements. The ideal candidate can develop, implement, and maintain Environmental and Safety programs and processes that support our company's strategy.

Job Functions

  • Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including those of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental agencies.
  • Advises Management on safety and environmental compliance concerns and preventative actions.
  • Assists in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
  • Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety and environmental practices.
  • Maintains safety and environmental files and records.
  • Performs safety and environmental inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Conducts post- accident investigation or near misses and prepares reports identifying possible causes and hazards and ensure proper corrective and preventative measures have been implemented.
  • Support local health and safety processes within plant, including JHA, PPE and assessments, behavioral based safety observations and ergonomics.
  • Oversees and directs shift safety coordinators, ERT/First Responder Team, Haz Response Teams, and Safety Committee.
  • Support local regulatory compliance to include, but not limited to: Title V, SPCC, EPCRA, RCRA, and storm water permits/discharge
  • Support the preparation of recommendations for corrective actions to eliminate or minimize potential or existing risks and hazards
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard management systems, policies, and procedures with recommended changes that reflect opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries
  • Study ergonomic issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Compile, analyze, and communicate metrics and KPIs via monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental preferred or 5 years of equivalent experience in this field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on professional health, safety, and environmental experience in manufacturing environment is required.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations at local, state, and federal levels is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Proven ability to be proactive and can facilitate change through education and training and by being a team player is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral and be able to work with all levels is required
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution with an understanding of root cause investigative process is required
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills needed to support multiple locations is required
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook 365 is required

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, air masks, hearing protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Although predominantly indoors, it may include working outdoors.

  • Physical requirements include possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and

ladder climbing; and routinely carrying 50 pounds.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer

physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • All employees must observe the facilities security requirements.
  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, and confined spaces.
