The Chief Process Advisor will advise withregards to the detailed checkout, precommissioning activities, heater andreactor circuit dryout, catalyst and/or adsorbent loading, startup, initialoperation and testing of the unit, as well as providing instruction anddirection to the operating staff. TheUOP Chief Advisor will have the overall on site responsibility for ensuringthat UOP's commissioning, startup, and initial operations services are fullyexecuted.
Before the completion of construction, theChief Process Advisor will compare and evaluate the specifications of thesupplied equipment with those specified in the UOP Schedule A Package, Pipingand Instrumentation Diagrams, and various UOP Standard Specifications andDrawings. This detailed examinationprocedure will enable the Chief Process Advisor to identify, evaluate andprovide advice to avoid problems that could interfere with a smooth startup andsuccessful performance of the Process Unit.
As the checkout is being completed, the UOPChief Process Advisor will provide direction for the development andimplementation of a precommissioning program. Activities carried out during this phase of the startup will includehydrostatic testing, water flushing, leak testing, pump and compressor run in,refractory dryout, high temperature field tests, inspection, catalyst loading,and instrument loop checking.
After completion of the precommissioningphase, the UOP Chief Process Advisor will review and evaluate the startupschedule and offer advice on possible improvements. The Chief Process Advisor will provideoperating instructions to Operations and Engineering staffs to ensure that theyhave knowledge of the UOP procedures for startup, normal operations, andshutdown, and that they understand UOP's recommended procedures for handlingemergency situations in a safe and efficient manner.
The Chief Process Advisor will advise thecustomer's engineers and operators to achieve a smooth and beneficialstartup. The Chief Process Advisor'sexperience on similar units will help to avoid pitfalls during thestartup. The Chief Process Advisor willissue daily instructions to shift-working Process Advisors, in concert with thecustomer's operations management team. UOP's prime objective is a smooth continuous startup, beginning withintroduction of feed and concluding with on-specification products.
Once initial startup has occurred, the UOPChief Process Advisor will advise on the daily operation of the unit andrecommend adjustments to optimize unit performance. The Chief Process Advisor will establishprocess guidelines to line out and prepare the unit for a successfulperformance test. The performance test will verify the unit's ability toachieve the yields represented by UOP during the design phase and will serve asa benchmark against which future process unit performance can be compared.
A detailed study of the unit may also be conductedduring this period. The study may include calculations of product yields andcatalyst activity/selectivity. The unit can be evaluated from both a processand hydraulic viewpoint, thus establishing a base condition that would beuseful in troubleshooting and planning future expansions.
