Job Summary

The Driller operates and repairs drilling equipment and provides guidance to work crews. They provide guidance and training for work crew personnel regarding rigging up and rigging down, day-to-day operations and company policies and procedures. The Driller leads operations to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and established procedures by his assigned rig crew.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and training for work crew personnel regarding rigging up and rigging down, day-to-day operations and company policies and procedures.
  • Utilize various computer programs to prepare and submit drilling operation reports.
  • Operate rig hoisting system from control panel; raises and lowers drilling tubulars using hoisting system.
  • Will be accountable for the direct supervision of three to five employees including the Assistant Driller, Derrickhand, Roughnecks, Motorman and the indirect supervision of five to eight additional personnel.
  • Communicate and assist the Rig Manager in improving HSE, production and controlling daily costs based on the operational budget goal.
  • Will recognize and eliminate safety and environmental issues and provide leadership that reinforces the EXE culture

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact with others in a team environment
  • Minimum training requirements: Health, Safety and Environment Orientation and Rig Specific Start Up Training, Well Control Certification, Supervisor Level, Drilling Only, and Horizontal and Extended Reach Drilling (HERDIT)
  • Basic/Intermediate computer skills, including the ability to
    • Operate a computer, Omron Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Pason systems
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to
    • Exchange accurate information relating to technical and safety performance with vendors, engineering, employees, etc.
    • Read, learn, and educate on safety and technical manuals

Education & Experience

Minimum: 3 - 5 years related experience

High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent is preferred
