Overview
Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities
• Install, repair, and maintain water mains, valves, and fire hydrants
• Repair and maintain wastewater gravity and force mains, manholes, and services
• Operate excavator, crew truck, dump truck, crane, tapping machines, water pumps, and power saws
• Direct set up of traffic control devices
• Set up well point and bypass pumps
• Perform confined space work
• Ensure work site safety and trench safety practices are followed
• Perform wastewater system maintenance and cleaning
• Operate a Vactor truck
• Install large volume commercial and residential meters at service connections
• Install, program, and maintain AMR components
• Perform water service turn-off and turn-on duties for residential, commercial and industrial customers
• Investigate and mitigate issues reported on the water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Log time, material, equipment, and work performed in the Enterprise Asset Management System
• Provide customer service while performing responsibilities
• May perform additional duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• One (1) year of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire
• TCEQ Class D Water, Class D Wastewater, Class I Collections, or Class D Distribution
Employment Testing
Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:
• Criminal Background Check: Yes
• Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes
• Drug Screening: Yes
• Physical Exam: Yes
Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
