Kleinfelder is seeking a highly skilled Construction Manager/Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale solar and renewable energy projects for Local Jurisdictional Utility Districts. This role will focus on managing the construction of large megawatt-scale solar PV and Wind systems, including civil site work, electrical installation, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience overseeing complex utility-scale construction projects, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and stakeholder coordination within a public utility framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead all phases of on-site construction for large-scale solar and renewable energy projects, including grading, trenching, foundations, access roads, and utility interconnections.
  • Coordinate civil work activities such as earthwork, drainage, erosion control, road development, and structural concrete for solar arrays and substations.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure compliance with jurisdictional/district standards, contract documents, and industry best practices.
  • Ensures environmental regulations, CAL OSHA safety requirements, and health and safety protocols are maintained.
  • Review and manage construction schedules, cost forecasts, and resource allocation to maintain project performance and milestones.
  • Coordinate closely with client's project teams, third-party engineers, inspectors, and permitting agencies to resolve field issues and ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Conduct routine site inspections, lead construction progress meetings, and produce detailed daily/weekly reports.
  • Review and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, and punch lists to maintain construction documentation in compliance with client's expectations.
  • Support project commissioning, energization, and closeout efforts in collaboration with jurisdictional operations teams.
  • Assists in preparation of presentation materials for project and schedule updates.
  • Mentor construction staff and help build internal capacity for future large-scale renewable project execution.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of construction management experience, beneficial skill sets would include large-scale renewable energy or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with site development and large-scale earthwork for solar or renewable energy projects.
  • Working knowledge of civil drawings, topographic surveys, and grading plans.
  • Prior experience working in the energy market is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project).
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Must be based in or able to travel regularly to the Sacramento area and project sites throughout our local service territory.

In addition to the above required competencies and experience, hiring preference will be given to those candidates with successful working experience with the following utility services:
  • Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)
  • Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)
  • Southern California Edison (SCE)

Benefits: Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Scale Disclosure Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $120,000 - $160,000/yr.
