Program Summary

KBR provides full-spectrum base operations support to Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, a remote location in the British Indian Ocean Territory. Our robust supply chain ensures on-time delivery of mission-critical supplies, and our team conducts essential port and airfield operations in this geographically complex environment. The KBR team is over 1,000 people strong, providing not only life support services such as water treatment, electricity, and telecom/antenna maintenance, but also quality of life services like Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) and an award-winning dining facility.

Job Summary

Responsible for monitoring or overseeing construction sites or project and making sure that workers within the environment adhere to government regulations/standards regarding safety.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Draws up and implements policies/guidelines that help reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
  • Provides site safety support on projects or turnarounds in the Health, Safety, and Environmental areas to prevent and mitigate employee injuries and illnesses.
  • Ensures that workers within a particular construction site follow already established policies and/or safety measures/regulations and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and used at the job/worksite.
  • Implements safe working procedures and practices, to make sure that safe conditions are maintained on the worksite.
  • Monitors proper use of tools, and equipment, including hazardous materials and waste.
  • Reports, coordinates, and assists in accident/mishap investigation that occurs on the specific job site being monitored.
  • Assists in joint safety audits, and reporting/record identified discrepancies.
  • Provides inputs for all safety-related documents and deliverables.
  • Performs supplementary tasks and duties essential to contract operations and performance.

Basic Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be knowledgeable in workplace hazards and construction site safety standards.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of current construction and general industry safety regulations and the ability to analyze and interpret this data for the safety of employees, and job sites.

EDUCATION:
  • Must have at least a High School diploma is required; an associate of bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering (any field), Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Fire Prevention, or other related scientific fields, based on a four-year course of study from an accredited college or university is highly desired but not required. Equivalent work experience in these fields may be substituted for Education.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity OR at least five years of experience as a Safety Officer, Safety Inspector, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, or experience gained by performing specialized work in a closely related professional occupation in construction.
