Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Physical Demands: The role requires frequent movement around the campus, including walking, standing, and occasionally climbing ladders or accessing confined spaces. The employee may need to lift items up to 25 pounds and use tools for inspections. Work involves reading technical documents and data on computer screens.
Work Environment:The environment includes both office settings and fieldwork at construction sites, with exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards. Adherence to safety protocols and occasional travel for meetings or site visits is required.

Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director Sustainability & Energy for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The Director of Sustainability and Energy manages a coherent, statewide, sustainability and energy program by coordinating operations, planning, academic, research support, and student activities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Foster a culture of sustainability among students, faculty and staff; collaborate with university leaders to identify and prioritize areas for campus sustainability efforts; plan and develop short and long-range programs; and engage with institutional leaders to foster sustainability broadly across campus units.
- Along with Sustainability, the Director is responsible for energy procurement.
- The Director is responsible for all utilities data collection including installation of equipment to collect data.
- The position is also responsible for energy and Utility reduction and utility usage reduction statewide. This include energy and water reduction projects and behavioral changes towards reduction.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of five years' experience in the field (inclusive of experience in sustainability).
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid Driver's License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership or managerial experience, preferably in overseeing large-scale projects and teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer (PE) license and LEED Accredited Professional certification.
- Ten (10) years of experience in the field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in sustainability also preferred.
Equipment Utilized
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, AIM, and Energy Solve. Be able to perform Energy analytics.
