Key Job Accountabilities

General Engineering Support
-
Provide electrical engineering support to projects, operations, and maintenance, contributing to the overall strategy and goals of the division.

Understanding Electrical Drawings and Components
-
Interpret and understand electrical diagrams and components, including:
-
Single Line Diagrams (SLD): Familiarity with symbols and legends used (e.g., 132kV/66kV/33kV/11kV/6.6kV/415V, isolators, fuses, switches, circuit breakers, MCCB/MCB).

Schematic Diagrams: Understanding of PDB, LDB, and 415V LV switchgear layouts.
-
Component Familiarization: Transformers, relays, UPS, cables, motors, generators, capacitors.

Protection Systems: Basics of relays and protection schemes such as overcurrent, earth fault, undervoltage.
-
Power Generation Fundamentals: Generator operation modes (Isochronous, Droop), active/reactive power control, and load shedding concepts.

Application of Electrical Theory

Apply basic electrical principles and equations, including:

Active and reactive power calculations

Power factor determination
-
Synchronous speed at given frequency

Load factor, utilization factor, diversity factor

Knowledge of Standards

Awareness of IEC standards related to:

Switchgear
-
Transformers
-
Motors
-
Hazardous area electrical equipment

Safety and Hazard Awareness

Understand electrical safety and hazards specific to oil & gas environments:

Hazardous area classifications (zone types and protection types such as Ex-d/e)
-
Electrical safe work practices (e.g., zero energy verification)

Arc flash hazard awareness

Operational Support for Projects
-
Provide input to the project management team regarding existing operations and maintenance practices.

Review Scope Deviation Requests to assess risks or deviations from standard operating procedures.

Project Testing Support
-
Support and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) in coordination with the project team.

Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Knowledge and/or Experience
-
Minimum 4 years of engineering experience in an oil and gas environment.
