Job Summary

Generator Excitation and PSS Model Design and Tuning Expert who is highly motivated and skilled to join our team at Emerson. This position is essential for the design, modeling, and calibration of generator excitation systems and Power System Stabilizers (PSS) to guarantee the reliable and efficient operation of power generation systems. The suitable candidate will possess a high level of technical proficiency in electrical engineering, control systems, and power system dynamics, as well as practical experience in enhancing the performance and stability of generators.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Develop and simulate Power System Stabilizer (PSS) models to improve system stability and reduce low-frequency oscillations.
• Tune excitation systems and PSS parameters to satisfy grid code requirements, operational performance objectives, and stability criteria.
• Develop and refine models for generator excitation systems, including Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) and associated control systems, using industry-standard software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSS/E, DIgSILENT),
• Perform field testing and validation of tuning parameters on operational generators.
• Examine the dynamic performance of generators in the presence of a variety of operating conditions and disturbances.
• Identify and resolve problems associated with suboptimal PSS performance or malfunctions of the excitation system.
• Work in close collaboration with equipment vendors, grid administrators, and power system engineers to guarantee that designs adhere to regulatory standards (e.g., IEEE, NERC, IEC).
• Offer technical mentorship for generator installations, retrofits, and improvements.
• Generate comprehensive technical reports, model documentation, and refining procedures for regulatory bodies and internal teams.
• Retain current records of test results, simulations, and designs.
• Effective Co-ordination & communication with PM/lead engineers.
• Ensure the highest level of customer focus and meet or exceed the customer satisfaction targets by following departmental quality procedures.
• Ability to travel to field sites for testing and commissioning as needed.
• Ensure compliance to prescribed Emerson health and safety norms in the team.

For This Role, You Will Need:

• Deep knowledge of Generator excitation system's design, engineering, and commissioning.
• Familiarity with hardware platforms for excitation systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Basler, GE, Toshiba etc.).
• Knowledge of grid codes and standards,
• Confidence and interpersonal/communication skills to work and influence at all levels.
• Change and performance management experience.
• Influencing - is emotionally and intellectually quick, establishes personal credibility.
• Confidence and Communication - at all levels
• Ability to understand strategic issues impacting the function deliverables.
• The position would involve international/domestic travel.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) with minimum of 5 years of experience in generator excitation system design, PSS modeling, and tuning within the power generation or utility industry.
• Expertise in control theory, power system dynamics, and transient stability analysis.
• Hands on experience of generator protection and synchronization system design, engineering, and commissioning.
• Proven achievements in the delivering projects as per the agreed schedule, within budget, innovation and meeting highest quality standards.
