ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and/or control the configuration documentation and work instructions required to install Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. parts and upgraded components, on an increasing scope of gas turbine components:
- Lead the preparation of technical information for customer proposals for upgrades by collecting and organizing the required technical information through collaboration with multiple engineering functions. The information is to show the benefits of specific Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. upgrades to customers, including guaranteed performance improvements (power, heat rate, turn down, reliability, availability, etc.), inspection interval extensions, and/or extended component life;
- Technically evaluate each customer's GT upgrade application, accounting for the specific configuration, service history, and customer's duty cycles to ensure that the upgrade is feasible and compatible with all the customer's operational requirements as directed by a Senior Engineer or Manager. When issues are encountered it will be necessary to determine if reasonable scope or design modifications, or changes to the operational characteristics can be made to successfully implement the upgrade or if the upgrade concept should not be applied to a particular unit or site;
- Fully define the work scope to be performed to implement upgrades or parts changes by preparing work packages that illustrate the current configuration of the gas turbine / generator and supporting auxiliary system components (pumps, valves, skids, control systems, etc.) and the changes that must be made to them to apply the desired upgrades. This information will be used by the interfacing departments to prepare cost estimates to quote the upgrades to customers;
- Demonstrate creativity in the packaging of upgrades to meet specific customer or market needs, to overcome issues with part configurations to make them available to a broader segment of the fleet, and to improve methods and processes that enhance customer satisfaction (speed of delivery, quality, cost & performance);
- Support sales and marketing activities to promote the sales of upgrades with technical presentations and answers to customer questions on the application of the upgrades to their GTs;
- Prepare Bill of Materials [BOM] for GT upgrades, configuration changes, CAD drawings, and work procedures that are sold to customers and support the sourcing activities to ensure the correct parts are available for the upgrade;
- Lead the preparation and turnover of technical information that specifies the work required to be performed during outages to implement the upgrades or component changes. This includes on-site support of field personnel during the outage (Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. field service, specialty service or contractors, and customer's personnel) and evaluation and countermeasure of any deviations that arise during the implementation of the upgrade ensuring that Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. GT design objectives are achieved during the process.
- Participate in selected GT user group meetings to promote interest in GT upgrades and to communicate with users to learn what product developments they need to remain competitive in their market.
- Perform benchmarking studies of Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. GTs to identify upgrade opportunities, working with applicable Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. departments to identify costs, benefits and potential sales volumes as a basis for establishing upgrade product development priorities;
- Mentor less experienced gas turbine engineers on the design and application of gas turbine components;
- Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts, and where possible, enhance the documentation and configuration control methods in use by Gas Turbine Service Engineering;
- Ensure products meet or exceed Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. and customer requirements;
- Perform other such duties as may be required..
