The Division of Adult Institutions is currently recruiting to fill a Power Plant Operator In Charge position. This position will be headquartered at Waupun Correctional Institution (WCI) in Waupun, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the operation of three Gas/Oil boilers; one 63,000 lb/hr, and two 43,000 lb/hr, two 1,000 KW steam generators, one 1,500 KW diesel generator and one 750 KW diesel generator in a complex power plant servicing three institutions. Responsibilities also include operation of two 800 G.P.M. well pumps and two water towers, 100,000 and 500,000 gallons. This position is also required to perform lead worker duties for a shift of workers.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $29.28 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule/range is 03-16. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.

NOTE: This position is NOT eligible to work remotely

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

• Maintaining and operating high pressure electrical, gas, and oil operated steam boilers and equipment.

• Performing supervisory or lead-worker related tasks (assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work, monitoring and training employees, etc.)
