Reports to: Manager, First-Generation Student Success
Pay Rate:
$15/hour for newly hired Undergraduate Students
$17/hour for returning Undergraduate Students
Hours: Part Time; 8 hours/week
Start Date: August 18, 2025 (pre-matriculation)

About First-Generation Student Success:
First-Generation Student Success is a new initiative at Babson College, building upon existing
programming and resources across campus offices and groups. First-Generation Student Success falls within Babson College Student Success which takes an integrative, synergetic, student-
centered approach to developing entrepreneurial leaders. We provide a seamless and supportive living-learning environment that prioritizes self-advocacy, health, and well-being as central to academic, personal, and professional success. First-Generation Student Success leverages this approach with a focus on students whose parents have not completed a 4-year college degree within the United States.
As a population, first-generation students at Babson have grown from 9% to 21% of
undergraduate enrollment since 2019. First-Generation Student Success will coordinate efforts across the College and develop a comprehensive strategy to support all first-generation students.
The staff and interns will work as a team to provide resources, community building, and programming/learning opportunities. A major initiative will be in developing a wholistic
mentoring program that brings together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff in mentoring first-generation undergraduate students from matriculation to graduation. In addition, the team will support academic and career advising, financial aid, community building, and
more!

Within the First-Generation Student Success, we believe professional competencies and
"readiness" are learned skills to which some have more access and opportunities than others.
Below represents some ideal skills; however, we are invested in your growth and want to hear what you bring to the role and what you are excited to learn. Hired interns will be cross-trained in various operational tasks with the potential to select focus areas such as Operations,
Communications, or a major program.

Term Details:
- Current/former undergraduate interns selected to return must make at least a semester commitment
- New undergraduate interns must make a full academic year commitment
Additional Details:
- Number of/schedule of hours may change with the needs of the office, including programming and period of breaks.
- The Office is typically open M-F 8:30am-4:30pm, with nights and weekends as needed; working hours will be in-office. Possible remote or alternative locations depending on Office needs and abilities.
- All interns will need to be available in-person on Fridays from 10am-11am for weekly staff meetings.
- International students who have not previously worked in the United States will need to apply for and receive social security number before they may begin employment.

- To accommodate Study Abroad, all students will need to reapply for consideration for the following academic year. Spring vacancies will be filled from the existing candidate pool if possible.

About the Position:
New Student & Family Engagement
- Serve as a key liaison with office and departments such as Admissions, Campus Life, Marketing, and Student Financial Services
- Collaborate with OFGSS Manager and Communications intern to ensure robust
information and resources for prospective students, families, and new Babson students
- Develop and facilitate signature programs such as August and January orientations, supporting the Learner Success information sessions, and identifying critical
programming and information to engage first-gen families
- Produce marketing materials and design the first edition of "To & Through: A Babson
College Guide for First-Gen Students & Families" - a comprehensive manual to support first-gen students preparing for college, maximizing financial aid, campus employment, and academic preparedness.
Community Building & Signature Programs
- Signature Programs support or specialty may include: First-Gen Welcome Dinner, end-of- year graduation reception, First-Gen College Celebration Day (11/8)/Week, and
implementation of a wholistic first-gen mentoring program
- With the guidance of Admissions, Glavin Office for International Education, Office of
Belonging & Inclusion, and other key partners, create spaces for first-gen cohorts to share in common identities and communities.
- Assist in the development and facilitation of trainings, webinars, and recruitment efforts as needed or desired
Wellness
- Develop and facilitate pre-matriculation events to support first-gen college readiness
- Assist Manager in identifying areas of basic need (housing, food, hygiene, etc) for first- generation students and identifying programs and strategies to mitigate barriers
- Propose and implement key programming and information campaigns to address unique first-gen needs, including: belonging, financial wellness, violence prevention, mental
health, and basic needs.
- Serve and key liaison with Health Services, Wellness & Prevention Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Accessibility Services to promote and ensure first-gen students receive critical information and opportunities
Professional Development
- Identify key career readiness and needs and support services of Babson first-gen students
- Collaborate with other interns and campus Departments to plan and execute development events, including but not limited to:
- Professional networking
- Annual First-Gen Summit - New England region conference
- Semillas Society annual conference
- Partner with Graduate & Alumni offices to build community between Babson Ugrad and Grad student populations
- Serve as key liaison with the Center for Career Development to promote and ensure first- gen students receive critical information and opportunities
Academic Success
- Identify key academic support needs of Babson first-gen students, including tutoring services, study skills, and other support opportunities
- Collaborate with other interns and campus Departments to plan and execute events, including but not limited to:
- Annual First-Gen Summit - New England region conference
- Semillas Society annual conference
- Tri-Alpha Honor Society inductions and events
- Serve as key liaison with Student Success & Advising, Accessibility Services, various tutoring centers, and Glavin Office for International Education to promote and ensure first-gen students receive critical information and opportunities
Communication & Marketing
- Promote inter-office/department collaboration by sourcing and promoting events and resources that would be beneficial to the First-Generation student community
- Develop office materials, including event flyers, brochures, resource materials, social media posts, office branded merchandise, and newsletters or community updates
- Monitor office email account to ensure timely response and service to students and College partners
- Maintain Office website(s) and intranets with up-to-date information, resources, and event details.
Finance & Operations
- Support Office Assistants who staff main office area to ensure general office presence and access, including greeting and supporting guests as needed
- Maintain office space reservation system for staff, students, student groups, and faculty with a focus on First Generation interests
- Develop Office documents as needed, including Standard Operating Procedures, budget management tools, annual reports.
- Provide expertise to Manager in Office budgeting and make recommendations for improved processes
- Manage room reservations through Babson EMS system
Distant and International Communities
- Serve as a key liaison with office and departments such as Admissions, Glavin office for International Education, Campus Life, Student Financial Services
- Collaborate with OFGSS Manager and Communications intern to ensure robust
information and resources for prospective students, families, and new Babson students
- Develop and facilitate signature programs centered on student populations from outside the Greater New England area to build community and address specific needs of students attending Babson from distant homes
- This role will partner heavily with the New Students and Wellness interns to create comprehensive community-building and resource needs assessments.

- Enrollment as a Babson College undergraduate student required for all positions except Graduate Engagement and Finance & Operations
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and maintain confidentiality of students entering and engaging with the First-Generation Student Success staff and programming
- Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, faculty, and staff
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
- Ability to manage and seek appropriate resources for students in needs/crisis
- Fluency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
- Basic knowledge or willingness to learn Babson College marketing guidelines and online design tools.
