Position Title: Accountant (Cost Control)

Purpose of the Role:
Seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant (Cost Control) to join the Finance team. The role is responsible for collecting, analysing, and presenting financial and accounting data, especially in Inventory Accounting, Costing, and Management Accounting. This position demands expertise in Oracle ERP (Inventory and Cost Management modules) within a steel production environment, ensuring the accurate determination of inventory costs, cost of goods sold (COGS), and financial reporting in compliance with internal policies and international standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Monthly / Annual Closing:

  • Manage monthly opening and closing of Cost Management and Inventory modules.

  • Perform overhead and joint cost allocations, prepare journal vouchers, and monitor absorption variances.

  • Clear pending transactions and WIP accounts across inventory organisations.

  • Run COGS recognition programmes and oversee WIP job valuations.

  • Scrutinise trial balances and perform necessary reconciliations.

Cost Control and Continuous Improvement:

  • Prepare monthly product cost sheets, broken down by process (e.g., DRI, Steel Making, Rolling Mill).

  • Prepare auxiliary product cost sheets for related materials (e.g., Lime, Dolo Lime, RBQ).

  • Provide advice on cost centre structuring and suggest improvements.

  • Assist in product pricing based on accurate cost analysis.

Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed fixed cost, utility, depreciation, and overhead reports.

  • Support quarterly and annual reporting, including data preparation for government agencies and external audits.

  • Generate by-product inventory reports and analyses of non-moving stock.

  • Develop and maintain Discoverer reports as per business requirements.

Inventory / Material Accounting Functions:

  • Daily accounting operations for inventory organisations, including transaction clearances and system reconciliations.

  • Maintain raw material landed cost records and update system absorption rates.

  • Manage debit/credit note implications, particularly for oxide pellet and scrap purchases.

  • Perform monthly inventory and GL reconciliation and support physical stock verification processes.

  • Assist with data preparation for statutory audits.

Policies, Systems and Processes:

  • Collaborate with IT to automate reporting and improve system processes.

  • Participate actively during Oracle system upgrades and enhancements.

Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ):

  • Follow all HSE procedures and report any incidents or risks appropriately.

Other Duties:

  • Carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.

  • Professional certifications: ACCA, CA, or CPA.

Minimum Experience:

  • 5–7 years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • 2–5 years of steel industry experience is highly desirable.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Advanced Oracle ERP experience (especially in Cost Management and Inventory modules).

  • Excellent written and spoken English, with strong report-writing ability.

  • Strong planning, organisational, and supervisory skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
