Position Highlights

This is an Extended Temporary position that is responsible for developing high-quality lesson plans, activities, and curriculum aligned with the Arizona Science Standards, focusing on mining and mineral resources. It also involves building and maintaining a network of educators, as well as promoting these educational materials, trainings, and related services to them. Specifically this will require providing continuing education to teachers, creating effective education and communications materials, managing communications and relationships with educators (teachers and guidance counselors) to broaden distribution and reach.

This position is an Extended Temporary position that is expected to end 2 years from the start date.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teacher Professional Development:
  • Independently design, deliver, communicate, and promote teacher professional development materials and opportunities regarding mining and minerals education.
  • Create and apply evaluation tools to maximize effectiveness of programs.
  • Cu at the Mine! and similar teacher professional development academies.
  • In-person workshops for conferences, school, and district offerings.
  • Digital content for online delivery through both synchronous and asynchronous media.

Educator Network and Communication:
  • Communication of programming and materials through educator network of email and social media contacts and assist marketing team with content as needed.
  • Communicate and promote curricular offerings through educator network of email and social media contacts and assist marketing team as needed.
  • Participate in and promote the program through relevant professional committees and organizations.
  • Track and evaluate educator network to maintain and expand active contacts to effectively market the program.

Curriculum Development:
  • Develop lessons, activities, programs, and opportunities to engage students in learning about mining and minerals for STEM, CTE, community outreach, and professional learning.
  • Define and develop offerings for "PreK-Gray" students, in line with the School's mission and vision.
  • Assist, as needed, with instructional design for all School affiliate programming.

Academic Engagement:

With final review and approval by supervisor:
  • Research grant opportunities and prepare grants and proposals for submission.
  • Identify high value speaking engagements, prepare and give presentations.

Identify and prioritize publications, prepare and submit content for:
  • Publication in STEM and CTE teaching trade magazines.
  • Publication in STEM teaching and teacher education academic journals and trade magazines.

Instruction:
  • Assist with Outreach events at schools, STEM fairs, and other community activities.
  • Assist with and/or oversee the recruitment, training, and scheduling of student workers to facilitate education outreach programming.
  • Assist instructor as necessary with general School courses, such as MIN226 A Balanced Future, Minerals and Sustainability by facilitating group discussions and debates and research and preparing course content updates.
  • If needed, act as lead instructor for the Mineral Resource Discovery Workshop.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of the Arizona State and Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and English Language Arts and their integration with the science standards.
  • Knowledge of standards with relation to career and technical education (CTE) programming.
  • Knowledge of STEM concepts related to mineral resources and mining.
  • Knowledge of best instructional practices and curriculum design for PreK-16 education and adult professional learning settings.
  • Ability to format curricula, lesson plans, and activities for broad distribution.
  • Skilled communicator with all levels of students and educators.
  • Ability to write grants and proposals for academic and professional purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience as a K-12 Science or Engineering Teacher.
  • Education degree with an emphasis on Science/STEM teaching.
  • Curriculum development experience.
