TITLE: HVAC Assistant

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE 12-month position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To maintain the facilities and ensure a safe, attractive, comfortable environment for students.

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
• Post-high school education and/or training
• Completion of technical training program or equivalent
• Proficiency in handling toxic and hazardous chemicals
• Proficiency in interpreting federal, state, local mandated programs, building codes and environmental rules and regulations

EXPERIENCE:
• One year with maintaining facilities
• Ability to communicate and work well with staff, parents and students
• Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written

DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE/PROFICIENCY OF EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS AND SKILLS:
• Knowledge of general maintenance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing heating and cooling equipment: maintenance materials and their proper application; types and kinds of equipment and material used in maintenance repairs. On the job training will be provided.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines, mechanics, and equipment operation and repair. On the job training will be provided.
• Knowledge and experience with safety codes in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC. On the job training will be provided.
• Ability to make recommendations to HVAC technician for major repairs or revamping of equipment. Assist with planning and lay out of routine preventative maintenance schedules.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
• May be required to alter working hours to perform regularly assigned duties
• Assist the HVAC technician with enforcing all State and System regulations related to HVAC
• Assist with repairs and maintain all building HVAC systems
• Assist with preventative maintenance on HVAC systems in accordance with SFB
• Performs maintenance and repairs to plumbing and electrical systems
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Level of accountability and authority;
• Must use own initiative and judgment in performing job
Interaction with others:
• Interact primarily with students and staff
Time Management:
• Must plan three to six months in advance
Working Conditions:
• Daily exposure to hazardous materials such as blood borne pathogens, high voltage, gases or heights

• Sit approximately 0% of the time
• Walk approximately 85% of the time
• Stand approximately 5% of the time
• Kneeling/Stooping approximately 10% of the time
• Lift on a regular basis 30 to 40 lbs.
• Reaching with hand and arms on a regular basis
• Ability to wear respirator as needed

• The work environment for this position is the normal for any shop area. With noise level variations from mid to high based on the type of tools or equipment being used or worked on at any given time.
