JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: Metallurgical laboratory technician evaluates steel properties during the manufacturing of drill pipe products

Duties:

• Operate the following machines to obtain test samples: CNC, milling & turning, drilling, metal band saw, surface grinder, and abrasive cutting saws
• Perform destructive test of steel tubulars, bar & weld products to include but not limited to operation of tensile test, impact test and hardness test equipment.
• Polishing & grinding equipment for metallurgical examination of steel products.
• Must adhere to health, safety and quality management system standards. Some physical lifting required of steel test samples. Work environment to include both inside and /or outside temperatures.
• Must be able to read and understand measuring devices. i.e. dial caliper, micrometer and ruler. operation of hand held spectrometer for steel chemical composition analysis
• Record data in a legible and systematic manner. Data is used in preparation of various test reports and certificates of compliance.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED is preferred
• Technical degree in metal working trade ( welding, heat treatment, or machining) or 1 -5 years experience in test lab environment is a plus.
• Knowledge and /or experience with data collections via oracle system. Moderate to advanced computer skills, Word, excel power point a plus
