Context & Environment

In the context of document insights project, we are experimenting with LLM agents to handle dedicated workflows based on expert instructions. The project involves using LLMs/SLMs on geoscience documents to extract parameters, tables, information related to specific prospects, performing analysis on different prospects etc.

In the exploration branch of TotalEnergies, the data and compute are hosted completely on-premise which constraints the use of cloud based models or APIs, henceforth the project involves only locally deployed models.

Activities

As an intern Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist specializing in NLP (M/F), the goal of the internship is to study large language models (LLM) and agentic AI approaches to delegate specific workflows to specific agents, and to test their feasibility on domain-specific datasets.

Initially, the task will involve testing different system prompt techniques to customize results before moving on to the agentic approach. Additionally, the internship will study the model context protocol (MCP) and model routing possibilities in an on-premise environment.

You will work within a team of experienced professionals and alongside a tutor-coach, who will be your future career mentor. Personalized support will help you develop your autonomy and lead you to your diploma!

Candidate Profile

Currently enrolled in an engineering school or a Master's program in geosciences, are you looking for a 6-month end-of-study internship starting in July 2025?

With a first experience in data science or computer science, do you have knowledge in research & development? Are you familiar with machine learning, natural language processing, and basic generative AI?

Are you comfortable with office tools and familiar with the Office suite? You will specifically use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. You are proficient in NLP, LLM, HuggingFace, Smolagents, NLTK, Transformers, OpenAI, Mistral, Anthropic, and/or Deepseek.

Do autonomy, rigor, and team spirit form an integral part of your qualities? Can you take initiative?

Having good writing skills and a professional command of French will be essential for your role.
