Job Description Summary
The Turbine Airfoils and Assy/Test (TAVS and LATO) Sub-Section Manager (SSM) demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This position is aligned with the TAVS and LATO Supply Chain Value Streams and will be responsible for executing engineering support of the Defense Product Cost and Producibility initiative.
This role is for a first line manager of individual contributor design engineers and shop cost focals fully dedicated to execute all Defense cost initiative projects associated with the TAVS and LATO Value Stream. In this role, the SSM will be responsible for building and leading a team of engineers with various levels of experience across multiple engineering commodities.
In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. You will work with supply chain focals to define actions to create manufacturing capacity while driving GE engineering and purchased service resources to execute producibility redesigns, qualification of new vendors, and identifying and leading strategic engineering-manufacturing initiatives to transform supply chain capability.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute and provide guidance for the analysis/evaluation of cost projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and program requirements
- Interface between supply chain, design engineering, and purchase services resources executing defined projects
- Lead business initiatives in design, materials, manufacturing, quality and/or productivity
- Define and develop product processes related to design, analysis, test, materials, manufacture, quality and/or productivity
- Identify need for technical and program reviews within the organization. Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules and contract commitments
- Own and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
- Build capability within the team by championing standard work and documentation
- Execute cost pipeline gap closure action plan line items in partnership with product line cost leaders
- Transform the way we do ideation by working across the org to develop new approaches and standards, going to gemba, and leveraging from the CES team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in design engineering or similarly focused technical responsibilities.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Desired Characteristics
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing engineering from an accredited university or college
- Experience in manufacturing and design of turbomachinery hardware.
- Prior experience as an engineering leader in Airfoils or Hot Section Components.
- In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools for example 3D modeling programs such as NX and FEA software such as Ansys.
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute high-complexity programs and projects.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Experience leading remote employees, with demonstrated collaboration across functions and organizations.
- The ability to exert influence with collaborators outside of your direct reporting structure.
