Job Overview:

The CAD Technician is responsible for designing photovoltaic (PV) solar systems for both residential and commercial buildings, including rooftop and ground-mounted installations. This role also involves integrating solar battery storage and generators as needed. The engineer will work closely with the sales, field teams, and other engineers to ensure the creation of efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solar systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • System Design & Engineering:
Design and create photovoltaic (solar) systems for residential and commercial properties, including both rooftop and ground-mounted systems. This includes integrating solar batteries and generators as required.
  • Engineering Software & Documentation:
Use engineering design software (such as CAD) to create and modify blueprints, electrical single-line diagrams, connection diagrams, and panel upgrade specifications for permitting and installation purposes.
  • Collaboration with Sales Team:
Provide technical advice to the sales team on system design and layout, ensuring customer needs are met efficiently.
  • System Planning & Evaluation:
Create plans for developing, monitoring, and evaluating solar electrical systems to ensure they perform optimally.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration:
Work with electrical engineers to determine solar system application and design requirements, ensuring proper integration of all system components.
  • CRM Management:
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in JobNimbus CRM, ensuring all project details, designs, and communication are properly documented.
  • Technical Support:
Provide technical guidance to in-house team members and field technicians, assisting with system layout and design to ensure smooth installation processes.
  • Power Generation Knowledge:
Demonstrate a basic understanding of power generation, electrical systems, and related measurements to select optimal equipment and system designs that maximize efficiency.
  • Equipment Selection & Suggestions:
Recommend appropriate hardware for each project, working closely with the sales team to make design modifications as necessary based on customer requirements.
  • Performance Data Analysis:
Analyze solar energy system performance data to ensure systems are operating as expected, proposing adjustments or improvements where necessary.
  • Simulation & Modeling:
Create models and simulations to predict system performance and guide design improvements.
  • Technological Awareness:
Stay current on emerging solar, battery, and generator technologies, providing insights and suggestions to the purchasing team for potential new products.
  • Approachable Team Support:
Foster a collaborative and approachable environment where team members feel comfortable seeking advice and guidance.
  • Customer Communication Support:
Assist in addressing customer inquiries related to system design plans and technical questions when needed.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience with AutoCAD
  • Solid understanding of electrical wiring, circuitry, and power generation principles

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required.
