Job Title: Waste Water Operator

District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose: To help maintain District Waste Water treatment plants in operable conditions.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High School/GED required. Must hold a current Class D license or obtain it within one year.
During the first twelve (12) months in that position, the employee is required to take the Wastewater certification examination at least once and score a minimum total of 25% on each of the two parts of the examination. During the second twelve (12) months, the employee must take the certification exam at once and score a minimum of 50% on each of the two parts of the examination.
During the third twelve (12) months in the position, the employee must pass both sections and obtain the Class II Operator - Wasterwater Works Certificate.
Experience/Knowledge: Basic knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations
Operation of hand and power tools plus equipment related to this

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with the completions of all plumbing repairs as
- Practice good safety habits at all times in accordance to the District's safety
- Procure supplies, materials, and equipment for each assigned work order.
- Use and secure district equipment in accordance to established
- Operate variety of physical, chemical and biological wastewater treatment processes. WPO will be required to operate or monitor more than one unit in a given
- Operate wastewater plant by controlling and monitoring equipment and processes, manually and through the use of control
- Initiate changes as determined through operating conditions, process variables, calculations, test results and interpretation of
- Adjust operating parameters to achieve specified operational
- Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, adjustment and inspection of equipment and report results.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work
- Record operating data, maintain operating log and records; prepare
- Accountable for all equipment, tools supplies, and
- Maintain treatment plants as
- Regular and reliable
- Make visual inspections of treatment
- Rake bar
- Check equal air distributions along length of
- Check sludge return
- Check in air lift skimmer is working.
- Check spray pump and spray
- Check chlorinator (if any) for proper
- Check and break up scum, in settling
- Complete plumbing work orders and submits them back to
- Report safety hazards to the immediate
- Keep assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating
- Perform other duties as
- Maintain fenced in area.
- Attend safety meetings, trainings, and other related certifications as
- Report items in need of repair as observed during site visits or in the performance of other duties.
- Maintain current records and lab samples as required by the State of
