Job Summary
The Career Coach & First-Generation Coordinator (CCFC) plays a critical role in supporting first-generation students as they matriculate through Morgan State University. This position, housed within the Center for Career Development (CCD), works collaboratively with various campus departments and external partners to create a seamless transition for first-generation students from their first year through their second. The CCFC will empower students by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to excel academically, socially, and professionally.
The CCFC will foster a collegial and supportive community, building meaningful relationships between students, peer educators, and professional mentors. A primary responsibility will be to design and implement initiatives that promote the academic, social, and career success of first-generation students, ensuring their readiness for a competitive workforce. The CCFC will also work closely with partners in the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Success to coordinate a shared mentoring component and create additional support structures for these students.
This position is supported by grant funding and focused on creating impact through personalized coaching, career development programming, and strategic mentorship initiatives. The CCFC reports directly to the Assistant Director of Career Readiness.

Experience

Job Duties
Student Support & Career Coaching
- Provide one-on-one and group career coaching to first-generation students.
- Conduct career readiness workshops, including resume reviews, interview prep, and networking strategies.
- Serve as a liaison between students and campus resources, ensuring they utilize available services.
- Facilitate monthly meetups for first-generation students to foster a sense of belonging.
Mentorship & Community Building
- Support a first-generation mentorship program, matching students with peer mentors.
- Recruit and oversee a team of peer educators to support First Gen students (10-15).
- Plan one networking event per semester to connect students with alumni and professionals.
- Match returning students with professional mentors, ensuring alignment with their career goals.
Program Coordination
- Manage and support a cohort of first-generation students, starting in their first-year experience through their second year of matriculation at Morgan State University
- Organize two career-related events per semester with employer partners (e.g., alumni panels, mock fairs, resume clinics).
Administrative Tasks
- Collect student engagement data (participation, progress, survey responses).
- Prepare brief reports on program effectiveness once per semester.
- Participate in outreach events to recruit prospective students for the program.
- Assist in the creation of promotional materials to attract mentors and promote the program.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
EducationBachelor's degree in education, counseling, human resources, or a related field required
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in career development, student affairs, or a related field, with a focus on supporting first-generation or managing student-led initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working with first-generation students in a higher education institution
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with career services and student success platforms (e.g., Handshake, Navigate360).
- Knowledge of experiential learning practices and mentorship models.
