The Driller Assistant works on a drilling team to operate various drill rigs, equipment and hand tools to collect soil/rock samples and data for geotechnical engineering purposes.

What you'll do:
Assist with geotechnical soil drilling, pavement coring, rock coring, soil/rock sampling, muck probing, soil classifications, in-situ field testing, and monitoring well installation
Assist in the operations and routine maintenance of various drilling rigs including transport to/from jobsites and within the jobsite
Operate support vehicle equipment
Assists Driller to manipulate, load, and unload drill rig tooling
Interact with geotechnical engineers and project managers to understand drilling assignments and to relate field information to the office
Prepare tooling and supplies for the day's field tasks
Assist in assembling and disassembling drill tooling, including but not limited to the following: solid-flight augers, hollow-stem augers, rock core barrel assembly kits, Shelby tube samplers, SPT split-spoon samples, etc.
Assist with the identification of boring locations through the use of GPS equipment and drilling assignments
Retrieval and logging of soil/rock samples during drilling operations
Help with cleaning and maintaining equipment as well as assisting in site cleanup responsibilities
Occasionally interact with other field personnel, utility locators, and client/Owner representatives during field operations
Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
Ability to communicate and interact effectively both verbally & in written form
Requires basic math skills
Ability to receive work/training instructions and follow tasks
Must be able to work occasional off shifts (nighttime) and overtime
Must be able to travel overnight up to 5% of the time
Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record (required)
Preferred Requirements and Qualifications:
H.S. Education or Equivalent (preferred)
Experience assisting with drilling operations is preferred but not required - WE WILL TRAIN!
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and be able to make discriminations in sound during drilling operations
Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold) for the majority of the day
Ability to climb occasionally (onto equipment or at jobsites)
