*This is a full-time travel position - out of state based on project needs*

Responsibilities: The Driller Equipment Locator assists the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crew by operating the locating system to guide the drill head along the designed bore path safely and accurately during fiber mainline construction. They are critical in preventing strikes to underground utilities, ensuring precision, and maintaining project timelines.

• Operate and monitor the drill head location and depth using locating equipment.
• Communicate constantly with the drill operator to maintain the planned bore path and ensure safe drilling.
• Mark the bore path and locate utilities prior to drilling using maps, as-builts, and site surveys.
• Perform potholing and exposure of utilities if necessary to confirm depths and locations.
• Record and document bore logs, depths, utility crossings, and drill paths as required.
• Identify and escalate any obstructions, utility conflicts, or safety concerns to the foreman/project manager.
• Assist with loading, unloading, setup, and breakdown of drilling equipment.
• Perform daily inspections on locating equipment to ensure functionality and calibration.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing proper PPE and following company, client, and OSHA regulations.

Requirements

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets the company's minimum safety standards.
• Prior experience operating a locator.
• Proficient in Internet-related applications such as email and web browsers.
• Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and locate maps.

• Able to meet physical requirements: climb ladders, work in confined spaces and/or various heights, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., squat, kneel, bend, crawl and stand for long periods of time.
• Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at heights when necessary (e.g., bucket trucks, ladders).
• Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to work.
• Completion of OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Schedule:

• Regularly scheduled to work 40 hours a week.
• Willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed in addition to regular travel. As part of your job duties, you may be required to travel depending on the project needs. When work is slower in your market, there may be an occasion that you would be asked to travel to another market location to help with the workload either in state or out of state.
