Damen Naval delivers advanced naval vessels to clients all over the globe. By implementing the most innovative technological developments in practice, we continue to push the boundaries of the shipbuilding industry. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

The role

As the Naval Architect/Marine Engineer at Damen Naval you become a pivotal force in shaping the future of naval vessels. You ensure our advanced naval ships and their complex systems remain at the absolute cutting edge of technology and performance.

Dive into a diverse range of challenges, from holistic Ship General Design to the intricate details of propulsion, mechanical handling, HVAC, and firefighting systems. Based within our dynamic Research, Development, and Innovation department, you'll collaborate within dedicated project teams, pioneering innovative marine engineering solutions and translating visionary concepts into tangible specifications for our shipbuilding projects. If you're driven to innovate and see your designs come to life on some of the world's most sophisticated vessels, this is your calling. Are you ready for duty?

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Spearheading Design & Development:
Drive the entire design lifecycle, from meticulous requirements analysis and innovative concept generation to defining general system architecture (utilizing 2D/3D CAD and MBSE models, and single-line diagrams). You'll also be responsible for critical weight and power estimations, configuring state-of-the-art propulsion and energy plant solutions, and mastering main ship balances.
  • Pioneering New Concepts:
Critically evaluate and assess emerging marine engineering concepts, including leading Proof-of-Concept (PoC) initiatives, and deliver insightful reports on your findings.
  • Translating Vision into Reality:
Develop detailed models, comprehensive technical documentation, and precise equipment specifications. You will articulate complex calculations, concepts, and data through compelling reports and presentations.
  • Fostering Collaborative Excellence:
Ensure seamless and effective communication with all project stakeholders and internal departments to achieve optimized project outcomes and foster a truly integrated design environment.

Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Educational Excellence: A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
  • Proven Expertise: A minimum of three years' hands-on experience in design, proposal development, and R&D practices within the naval shipbuilding, maritime, or offshore industries.
  • A Track Record of Innovation: Demonstrable success in delivering impactful innovations within your marine engineering field of expertise.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity and skill with relevant CAD software and engineering calculation tools.
  • Clear Communication: A strong command of the English language (both written and verbal) is essential. Proficiency in Dutch is a valuable asset.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.

  • Profit sharing based on company results.
  • Flexibility to work from home up to two days a week.
