Description

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Nuclear Engineer - Radiological Waste Systems who will design, procure, and plan installation of the equipment used to handle radiological waste at the Mo-99 plant. In addition, this role will own the waste programs including communication with waste facilities, assurance that any waste is handled per the CFR sections relating to disposal, and the licensing basis for waste management. The Nuclear Engineer - Radiological Waste Systems has the opportunity to work on nuclear analysis calculations if qualified as well.

The base salary range for this position is $76,000 - $115,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Nuclear Engineer include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform calculations and reports that quantify waste streams
  • Design and procure equipment for the handling and packaging of radiological waste
  • Create installation drawings with the designer group of equipment for construction to use to locate and install waste systems
  • Work with vendors to fabricate equipment including travel to vendor sites as needed
  • Own and update the decommissioning cost estimate for the Mo-99 facility

Requirements

  • Degree in nuclear engineering or closely related field
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering
  • Experience with federal regulations regarding radiological waste
  • Experience handling radiological waste and/or designing waste handling systems is preferred
  • Ability to work independently with waste repository vendors to get quotations, create contracts, and eventually ship waste
  • Willingness to learn, understand, and develop new technology
  • Ability to design first of a kind system in a team environment with coworkers and/or vendors
  • Experience making design decisions while taking risk into account
  • Strong technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with MCNP and/or Origen is preferred

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant's ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant's eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
