Your role and responsibilities

We are excited to be looking for our new Controller to join the team at ABB Process Automation Business Area, Marine and Ports Division (PAMP). In this role you act both as the Local Division and Business Line Service & Digital Controller in Canada. You will act as a key business partner to the Local Business Line Manger and Local Division Manager and their management teams to drive and execute the strategy according to the business model. You will lead the finance teams to optimize the financial performance and to support effective business decisions by monitoring, analysing, and interpreting financial data to evaluate various business alternatives and recommend the most appropriate business solution to drive for profitable growth in the CA Local Business Line and lead the duties in the Local Division. In this role you report directly to the Americas Service Area Controller and functionally to the Local Division Manager in Canada. Strategy • Contributes to the definition and execution of the strategy for the Canada Local Business Line and Local Division. • Partners with relevant business leaders in determining strategy for area of responsibility (Finance) and developing implementation and monitoring plan. Business planning and forecasting • Enables strategy translation into measurable targets including main financial KPIs. • Drives business financial planning and forecasting process for the Canada Local Business Line and Local Division. Ensures compliance with timely submission of forecasts and plans. • Evaluates financial implications of various project or operational decisions, builds scenarios, and recommends actions based in facts. Business performance • Monitors progress achieved and provides necessary insight and analysis to support operational decision-making. Provides meaningful analysis of areas of utilization, absorption, rates, sales cost, travel cost, allocations, etc. • Drives appropriate cost structure, productivity optimization, and capital efficiency. Manages and closely monitors the cash flow and takes action to improve Net Working Capital. Financial Reporting • Ensures financial reporting management in accordance with defined quality standards and reporting schedules. • Has overall responsibility for correctness of unit's balance sheet and income statement as well as for cash flow and monthly/quarterly forecast. Optimization • Leads cross-functional initiatives that support strategic goals. • Drives definition and implementation of global standards and business specific guidelines to ensure continuous improvement in the financial control process within own area of responsibility. Communication and knowledge sharing • Leads, provides guidance, and participates or facilitates best practice to ensure alignment and consistency of controlling practices. • Ensures timely and efficient communication with relevant internal customers to identify and discuss issues for improvement of operations, work quality and efficiency for area of responsibility. Integrity, Internal Controls • Ensures transparency in financial reporting and disclosures and implements efficient internal controls required by ABB and USGAAP. • Promotes integrity on the business agenda within local and regional team and local operations. • Supports internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations (if any) on priority Risk Management • Assesses business risk exposure and defines risk mitigation strategies to reduce impact on business performance (FX, bonds, etc). • Executes global risk review procedures and processes to minimize financial risk and exposure Contract and Proposal Review • Reviews orders and contract specifics to verify accuracy versus proposal and/or standards • Advises on financial and commercial aspects of proposals, contractual terms and conditions, risk reviews, contract structuring, tax issues, cashflow analysis, and other relevant issues. Reviews and approves full cost model and price lists which ever applicable and comply with Global Risk Review guideline People and Leadership • Supervises finance teams while displaying ABB's values. • Ensures that the area of responsibility is organized, staffed, and properly skilled. Striving to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the team. Guides, motivates and develops direct/indirect subordinates within HR policies

Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience.
  • Strong commercial & business acumen.
  • Excellent knowledge of finance processes and tools, including SAP.
  • Proven ability to solve problems using structured approach.
  • Good analytical, communication and leadership skills.
  • Recognized as great team player and appreciated for collaboration and business partnering skills.
  • Highly proactive and result driven attitude with the ability to influence, communicate and network in a complex international matrixed organization.
