Your role and responsibilities

Reporting to the Service Manager for the province of British Columbia, the Field Service Engineering Representative will be responsible executing the maintenance activities, troubleshooting and resolving the customers' operational problems and optimizing the performance of harbor crane automation systems on various types of cranes to include Ship-to-Shore Cranes and Rubber Tired Gantry(RTG). Develop crane control software applications for PLC(Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI(Human Machine Interface) panels. Tasks: • Adhere to the ABB Health & Safety policies for all assigned jobs. • Lead and/or participate as part of a larger team in new and retrofit projects and commissioning service jobs. • Travel to customer sites, on a planned or urgent basis, to troubleshoot and resolve equipment operational issues, with support from the extended team of ABB subject matter experts when required. The goal would be to ensure the cranes system is operational and meeting performance, availability and utilization targets. • Prepare job plans and plan activities accordingly in collaboration with the assigned Service Project Manager. • Prepare and present service reports with recommendations to customers based on services provided. • Implement services for cranes systems to optimize the operation and/or availability of the equipment. • Program variable frequency converters with logic specific for crane motions, upgrade projects for obsolete electrical and automation system on old cranes. Setup and commission computer system for Crane Maintenance systems and remote monitoring stations. • As required, coordinate team meetings/discussions with ABB subject matter experts to: Analyze the equipment performance (uptime, maintenance, failures) that the customer is experiencing; Institute operational & maintenance improvements ; Review operational parameters in dealing with specific customer equipment issues. • Offer reliable, courteous, prompt, and professional customer service at all times. • Assist customers in obtaining support for any products which are not part of their area of expertise. • Identify opportunities for ABB to provide additional value to customers.

Qualifications for the role

  • Electrical Engineering degree or Technologist Diploma.
  • Five years' experience in the position offered or installing, servicing, or commissioning electrical and automation systems.
  • Experience in electrical systems of cranes or developing heavy machinery application software for electronics and power electronics equipment to include programmable logic controllers(PLC), human machine interfaces(HMI), and variable frequency drives(AC/DC).
  • Experience with operating switchgear equipment or installing and commissioning computer networks for heavy machinery systems.
  • Requires up to 75% travel, including weekends and holidays for extended durations.
  • Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle and availability to travel outside of local area.
  • Strong abilities with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work under an unsupervised environment.
  • Good communication skills in both French and English (oral and written).
  • Maintenance orientated, with strong mechanical aptitude.
