We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Archaeology Team Lead to join our Atlanta, GA office. The selected candidate for this position will apply their knowledge and experience toward the assessment of transportation, planning, and infrastructure projects, along with preparation and review of environmental documents in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other environmental laws.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Lead the archaeology team in the Atlanta office and support the growth of the department.
  • Plan and occasionally lead field work while adhering to Atkins safety protocols and procedures or minimally oversee the team's adherence to protocols and procedures.
  • Oversee all laboratory and curation coordination.
  • Conduct research using a variety of primary and secondary sources.
  • Evaluate historic resources for eligibility in the National Register of Historic Places, in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other relevant environmental laws.
  • Assess effects to archaeological resources, including working with design professionals and overall project team to avoid or minimize impacts in accordance with Section 106, and propose mitigation when necessary.
  • Write technical reports and provide quality reviews of reports prepared by others, including creating project and resource location maps.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies and tribal governments.
  • Maintain task schedules for assigned projects, including a list of all required cultural resources documentation prioritized by project baseline schedules.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Must be prepared to occasionally spend time in the field and travel to project sites, with some overnight visits required. Projects will generally be in Georgia but could be elsewhere throughout the United States, as needed.

What will you contribute?
  • At minimum, must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • 15+ years of full-time professional Cultural Resource Management experience and demonstrated experience with all phases of archaeological projects.
  • Prior supervisory experience is required.
  • Prior Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex projects while meeting all baseline schedule dates.
  • General understanding of the following industries: transportation, infrastructure, state and local governments, and/or regulatory/compliance.
  • Intermediate experience with ArcGIS is required.
  • Familiarity with reading transportation engineering plans is required.
  • Excellent written, technical, and interpersonal skills. A writing sample will be required as part of the application process.
