Job Summary
The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in commercial or industrial settings. The HVAC technician ensures all systems operate efficiently and comply with local safety and environmental standards. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance on portable HVAC units to ensure safe, reliable, uninterrupted service.
- Perform maintenance and testing, adjusting, and balancing on HVAC systems to ensure proper operation, to minimize breakdowns, to maximize useful life, to improve occupant comfort levels, and to decrease energy consumption.
- Clean HVAC ducts to ensure they are clean and function properly.
- Install HVAC systems including ductwork, compressors, condensers, thermostats, air handlers, chillers, and related equipment.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal operation and energy efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning HVAC units, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Inspect HVAC systems and components for safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
- Test system functionality and performance using specialized tools such as pressure gauges, voltmeters, and airflow meters.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and recharging in accordance with EPA guidelines.
- Communicate with customers or project managers regarding system status, repairs, and service recommendations.
- Complete service reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Adhere to safety protocols and KBR company policies at all times.
Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
- Must be at least a high school, vocational, or technical course graduate.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical components, and refrigeration principles.
- Familiarity with BMS/BAS controls and digital thermostat systems.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requires handling multiple tasks at a given time.
And rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. - Must be able to read and interpret Work Orders, parts requests, drawings/schematics/blueprints, and manuals to accomplish assigned duties.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Must speak, read, and understand the English Language.
- Must be able to pass medical, dental, drug screening, and background checks in accordance with deployment requirements.
- Must have U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 "Universal" Technician Certification.
- Must have a valid country of origin driver's license.
- Must have basic knowledge of using NAVFAC Maximo and a Tablet.
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
- Additional certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NATE, or HVAC Excellence are highly desired.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC system installation, maintenance, and repair in a commercial, industrial, or military setting
