PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring salary: $23.54 - $29.42/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The Water Service Locate team identifies and marks City of Aurora's infrastructure with accuracy of locate request in accordance with tier 1 requirements and state law.

Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use mobile tablet to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours.

  • Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.

  • Effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities.

  • Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.

  • Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches related to all locates completed.

  • Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.

  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner and maintain professional appearance.

  • Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours.

  • Employee responsible for city owned vehicle/equipment during and after normal work hours.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or GED

  • Will be confirmed through market study.

Experience:

  • A One-year related experience, or an equivalent combination of construction knowledge.

  • Will be confirmed through market study and city standard for each level of classification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of utility locate experience.

Knowledge:

  • Develop a general knowledge of state and local damage prevention regulations.

  • Learn and apply safety measures relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the public.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Completing dig ticket transmissions on time.

Abilities:

  • Successfully complete City of Aurora's training program and pass applicable written and field tests.

  • Self-motivated and able to work alone.

  • Communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors/foremen, excavators, contractors, and customers.

  • Possesses attention to detail.

  • Possess a fundamental understanding of basic locating concepts and a basic understanding of the water distribution system.

  • Read and interpret utility maps and utility records.

  • Possess a fundamental understanding of the "one call" system rules and regulations.

  • Read and interpret locate ticket request.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Colorado Driver License and a good driving record

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Continuously traveling to multiple jobs sites in a single day.

  • Continuously working in or around traffic.

  • Occasionally works in confined spaces.

  • Attends scheduled meetings and or training events.

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all city of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.

  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to ride in a vehicle for up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.

  • Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.

  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.

  • Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily outdoors in all-weather elements.

Equipment Used:

  • Use computer, mobile tablet.

  • Various electronic locate equipment.

  • Proper tools to open manholes, Valve boxes, fiber boxes etc.

  • Company vehicle (included to and from work)
