Job Purpose

Responsible for all legal work in Malaysia & Brunei and and/or such other jurisdictions as needed based on Company requirements and directed by the Senior Legal Counsel. Assist Senior Legal Counsel in providing legal support and implementing compliance systems and processes. Travel will be required.

Roles & Responsibilities

SAFETY, SECURITY & COMPLIANCE
  • Maintains the highest standards of corporate governance, ensuring that all activities are carried out ethically and in compliance with Company's Security, Compliance & HSE policies, Management System, relevant laws, regulations, standards and industry practices and comply with the Company's Rules to Live By
  • Places Quality, Health & Safety, Security and protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers or the communities in which we live and work at risk
  • Seeking continual improvement in Health, Safety, Security & protection of the Environment, taking into account responsible care, process vulnerabilities, public, customer and employee inputs, knowledge and technology and best business practices to exceed customer expectations
  • Supervisors & Managers should demonstrate effective safety leadership for the health and safety arrangements of all subordinates and for any people visiting them while on the Company premises


QUALITY
  • Responsible for being familiar with the Company's Quality policies and taking an active role in the compliance and improvement of Weatherford's Management System
  • Maintains service quality as an immediate priority when working across all areas of the business and continually seeking areas for improvement


OPERATIONS
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating Commercial, Sales and Service Contracts for the Oil and Gas service industry.
  • Provide general legal advice to the business, including liaising with outside counsel.
  • Corporate Secretarial support for all Weatherford legal entities in the area of coverage.
  • Leading and supervising outside counsel and managing litigation and litigation expenses for areas of coverage.
  • Conducting Due Diligence Enquiries for the engagement of agents, sales representatives, distributors and other intermediaries.
  • Conducting Legal Training for Company personnel.
  • Legal Reporting to Supervisor.
  • Provide HR team with on-going advice and support to address and resolve on-going employment related matters. Lead and manage employee disputes before Ministries, Departments, Courts etc.
  • Helping with vendor agreements; draft, review and negotiate procurement agreements.


COMMUNICATION
  • Maintains effective communication with all key stakeholders both internal and where appropriate external
  • Supervisors & Managers should clearly communicate expectations, roles and responsibilities to their reports


FINANCIAL
  • All employees have an accountability to the organization to be financially responsible whether they are in charge of a function budget or simply their own expenses
  • Costs incurred should be within the approved budget, processed within the agreed time frames & following the relevant financial policy and procedure


PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT
  • Employees have a responsibility for developing their own careers within the Company including completing all necessary functions, compliance & business standards training to enhance their knowledge, skills and experience
  • Employees should engage on a regular basis with their line manager to discuss their personal performance, objectives and opportunities to enhance their skills and experience to support their career potential
  • Supervisors are expected to actively be engaging their employees to support talent management through Weatherford's performance management process, including but not limited to talent assessments, succession planning & regular coaching opportunities
  • Supervisors should collaborate with Human Resources & Training Development to drive strategies for the recruitment & retention of key personnel & to foster an environment that supports the attraction & retention of a highly performing talented workforce


Experience & Education

REQUIRED
  • At least 5 years prior Legal Experience in the corporate and commercial department of a reputable law firm and/or multinational corporation
  • Law Degree from a reputable university. Admitted to the Malaysian Bar and/or qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction


PREFFERED
  • Oil and Gas Industry/Manufacturing preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

REQUIRED
  • Be able to work independently
  • Be able to travel when necessary
  • Disciplined
  • Be able and willing to implement legal and compliance policies and processes
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office including MS Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel)
  • Good legal and research skills and open to learning new technology.
