Senior Network Engineer

KBR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to oversee enterprise-level IT operations for a mission-focused federal civilian agency. This role includes responsibility for virtualized infrastructure, the Network Operations Center (NOC), the Security Operations Center (SOC), and the execution of complex IT projects, including infrastructure modernization and multi-cloud migration.

The ideal candidate will design, implement, and manage operational processes to ensure the high availability, scalability, and security of IT services across networks, servers, databases, and other mission-critical components. This is a key technical leadership position focused on delivering secure, resilient, and compliant enterprise IT operations in support of national priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead daily enterprise IT operations including cloud, network, infrastructure, and security service domains.
  • Direct and oversee data center migrations, network upgrades, and hybrid cloud initiatives (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI).
  • Develop and maintain operational playbooks, architecture documentation, and performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Ensure operational compliance with federal cybersecurity mandates (e.g., FISMA, NIST) and disaster recovery best practices.
  • Design resilient, scalable network topologies supporting segmentation, redundancy, and real-time monitoring.
  • Collaborate with SOC teams to enhance cybersecurity posture, manage incident response, and maintain operational security.
  • Provide strategic technical input to cross-functional teams supporting modernization, transformation, and mission sustainment.
  • Drive continuous service improvement using automation, ITIL processes, and Agile/DevSecOps principles.
  • Engage with agency stakeholders to align operational capabilities with enterprise strategic direction.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 7-10 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT operations, network engineering, and infrastructure support.
    • Proven track record managing complex technical projects involving infrastructure migration and cloud adoption.
  • Certifications (All required):
    • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
    • CCNP or CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Professional or Architect)
    • Professional Cloud Solutions Architect certification (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
    • Certification in multi-cloud strategy (any recognized credential across two or more major cloud platforms)
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in enterprise networking, virtualized environments, and multi-cloud infrastructure.
    • Deep knowledge of compliance and security protocols in federal environments.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent written and oral communication, strong analytical thinking, and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting enterprise IT operations in federal civilian agencies, particularly those with national security or emergency response missions.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture, FedRAMP, and TIC 3.0 security frameworks.
  • Proficiency with advanced networking technologies such as SD-WAN, BGP, OSPF, VLAN segmentation, and secure VPN architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Splunk, Prometheus).
  • Working knowledge of Ansible, Terraform, and other infrastructure automation and CI/CD tools.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation, SOPs, incident reports, and engineering artifacts.

Candidate Profile:
  • Self-starter with a strong foundation in enterprise infrastructure operations and a proven ability to lead modernization efforts.
  • Adept at translating operational needs into scalable, secure network and infrastructure solutions.
  • Comfortable working in mission-critical federal environments with a strong understanding of security, compliance, and uptime requirements.

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Candidates must have strong technical abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis.

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.
