Position Summary:
The Security Specialist supports operational and system-level security for Defense Health IT programs, including TMIP and OpMed, by coordinating and executing security policies and activities across global environments. This role is critical in sustaining compliant and accredited systems, conducting risk assessments, supporting ATO maintenance, and ensuring adherence to DoD, Defense Health Agency, and cybersecurity directives. Responsibilities span classified and unclassified environments, and include supporting accreditation, vulnerability management, and incident response. Security Specialists work closely with program management, cybersecurity, engineering, and hosting teams to ensure secure and resilient systems supporting medical readiness across CONUS and OCONUS sites.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide security risk guidance to protect classified and sensitive systems and data.
  • Make access eligibility determinations and ensure proper handling of classified systems documentation.
  • Conduct site surveys and perform physical security inspections and facility accreditations.
  • Interpret and implement current security policies and procedures for physical, personnel, and information security.
  • Support RMF/DIACAP processes and documentation, including the development and maintenance of ATO packages.
  • Collaborate with the IAM and cybersecurity teams to review infrastructure changes and maintain the SSAA/eMASS system.
  • Ensure compliance with federal policies such as FIPS, EAL, and CAP.
  • Maintain security documentation and support recertification activities for enclave and system boundaries.
  • Participate in A&A meetings, assist in vulnerability mitigation, and support system testing.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or approved DoD/Military Security Specialist training
  • Experience: 7 years with Bachelor's or 9 years with technical training
  • Active DoD Secret required at minimum. TS/SCI eligibility may be required for certain assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Skills and Tools:
  • Security Frameworks: RMF, DIACAP, JAFAN, DoDI 8500.2, DoD 5200.1-R, NIST SP 800-53
  • Tools & Platforms: eMASS, ACAS, DISA STIG Viewer, Nessus, HBSS, Splunk, vulnerability scanning utilities
  • Technical Skills:
    • Interpreting and applying security controls across multiple domains (network, application, physical)
    • Supporting audits and inspections, including artifact collection and package submission
    • Drafting and maintaining Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and System Security Plans (SSPs)
    • Coordinating ATO renewal and maintaining continuous monitoring requirements
    • Providing security training and briefings to users and technical staff
    • Supporting cross-functional collaboration with IT, engineering, and acquisition personnel
    • Familiarity with classified facility requirements, COMSEC protocols, and handling procedures

Work Location: Charleston, SC - Norfolk, VA - San Diego, CA - Djibouti, Africa. Primarily onsite at Government facilities; potential travel for inspections, audits, or field support.

Compensation: $101,500 - $152,200. The salary range posted is based on the national average. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.
