Context & Environment
OneTech's mission is to provide the technological and scientific expertise required to support development projects and operations across all TotalEnergies activities worldwide (oil and biofuels, natural and green gas, renewables and electricity). Its 3,400 employees - engineers, technicians, researchers, and support staff - are based on 9 sites across Europe and are fully committed to helping TotalEnergies achieve its ambition of becoming a major player in the energy transition, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050.
Join our Customer Lines, Technical Lines, R&D Lines and Support functions teams, which assist all operational branches of TotalEnergies in their development projects and operational support!
Activities
As part of a strategic collaboration between TotalEnergies (OneTech R&D) and CNRS (Institut Terre Environnement Strasbourg), we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the joint inversion of seabed DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) microseismic data in the context of CO₂ geological storage monitoring.
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, your missions will include:
Expected deliverables:
The postdoctoral fellow, funded by TotalEnergies and working in direct collaboration with its internal team, will be based in Strasbourg during the initial development phase and will spend more time in Pau during the data inversion and monitoring test phases.
The contract can last up to four years and may be renewed twice. It must be signed within three years of the PhD defense, in accordance with Article L.431-5 of the French Research Code.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, your missions will include:
- Develop 3D joint inversion (earthquake location and velocity model) and evaluate the sensitivity of the method on synthetic datasets
- Analyze the influence of inverting both P- and S-wave velocity models
- Assess location uncertainties: for a given velocity model, compare performance between seabed DAS, borehole antennas, or both combined
- Generalize the approach to extended fiber optic networks
- Compare the method to conventional relocation techniques
- Explore cases where a simple 2D velocity model is used as a starting point, and how microseismic activity can progressively help constrain parameters
- Develop 4D inversion: once the velocity models are calibrated, analyze how continuous microseismic activity can help monitor reservoir changes
Expected deliverables:
- All codes developed by the postdoctoral fellow during the collaboration, with related user documentation
- All synthetic datasets generated for benchmarking or development purposes
- Results of the joint inversion algorithms, accompanied by technical reports

Candidate Profile
This position is for you if:
- You hold a PhD in computational geophysics (geophysics and applied mathematics/scientific computing)
- You are curious, rigorous, and able to communicate complex technical topics clearly
- You have a strong interest in wave propagation physics, numerical modeling, and inverse problems
- You are proficient in programming: Fortran, Python/Matlab, and high-performance computing
