INTERNSHIP Data Engineer - Energy & Innovation

Location: Madrid (Hybrid) | Team: SEM Iberia - ENGIE
Language: Fluent English | Spanish is a strong plus

About ENGIE & GEMS

At ENGIE, we're leading the shift to a low-carbon world. Our Global Supply Energy Management (SEM) business unit manages one of Europe's largest and most diverse energy portfolios - from electricity and gas to CO₂ and green certificates.

SEM develops smart, automated solutions to deliver affordable and sustainable energy across Europe. Our engineers, developers, and traders work side by side to power the energy transition with data, algorithms, and real-time decisions.

Your Mission

As a Data Engineer, you'll join our SEM Iberia Data Team, working closely with traders, analysts, and IT squads to build modern, scalable data solutions. Your work will directly impact the way energy is traded, forecasted, and optimized.

What you'll do:
  • Design and maintain robust ETL/ELT data pipelines.
  • Automate data ingestion, transformation, and reporting workflows.
  • Ensure data quality and governance (lineage, documentation, security, compliance).
  • Optimize performance of pipelines and databases.
  • Collaborate on defining best practices in data design, testing, and MLOps.

What We're Looking For
  • Strong hands-on experience with ETL/ELT processes and data orchestration.
  • Proficient in SQL and Python (or a similar data-focused language).
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools.
  • Knowledge of data governance and privacy standards (e.g., GDPR).
  • Analytical mindset, proactive attitude, and strong attention to detail.

Bonus points for:
  • Fluent Spanish
  • Experience in Agile environments
  • Exposure to machine learning or predictive models

Why Join Us
  • Be part of a purpose-driven company reshaping the energy world.
  • Work with cutting-edge tech in a diverse, international team.
  • Contribute to real-time systems that make energy smarter, greener, and more reliable.
  • Grow your skills in a dynamic, supportive, and forward-thinking environment.

Ready to build the future of energy with us?
We'd love to hear from you.
