Title: District HVAC Mechanic

Reports To:
Assistant Director of Maintenance & Facilities

Takes Direction From: Assistant Director of Maintenance & Facilities, Director of Facilities and Operations

Schedule/Calendar: 8 hours/day 40 hours/week 12-month

Summary: The District HVAC Mechanic maintains, services, and repairs HVAC systems, chillers, exhaust fans, refrigeration, and building automation controls, etc.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintains, repairs, and installs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, control systems and related equipment and components throughout the school district
  • Performs skilled mechanical maintenance work to repair, install and alter heating, ventilating, refrigeration systems and related equipment
  • Troubleshoots diagnoses, and determines repair needs for chillers, boilers and/or control problems
  • Installs, maintains and repairs cooling towers, chillers, pumps, motors, compressors, pneumatic and DDC controls and related components of HVAC systems
  • Tests systems for leaks, faults,and pressure/charge loss
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC systems and equipment
  • Understands electronic building automation systems and demonstrates the ability to operate and modify programming to achieve the desired result according to Board policy
  • Orders materials as needed
  • Keeps basic work records using an electronic district maintenance management system
  • Assist other district maintenance personnel in performing tasks as assigned by the Coordinator of Maintenance & Facilities
  • Performs other building maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Performs snow and ice removal as directed

Education and/or Certification Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical/vocational school, or industry recognized apprentice program completion.
  • Valid PA driver's license
  • Current EPA Refrigerant Certification

Experience Needed:
  • Five (5) years experience of the HVAC maintenance and repair experience

Requisite Skills:
  • Skilled in assembling, installing, testing, and general maintenance of HVAC systems
  • Ability to understand and follow simple written or oral instructions
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and instructions as well as equipment operation and maintenance instructions
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to work standing/walking for long periods of time, ability to work alone, ability to lift, push, pull, twist, stand, raise arms above shoulders, stoop to ground, and climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in noisy or dusty environments, inside and outside, and in extreme weather conditions
