Process Engineering Assistant

Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in part by planned New Build projects underway internationally and domestically. Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company has entered into an agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). The project is spearheading the deployment of the GEH BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) before the end of the decade. It will be the first grid-scale SMR deployed in Canada.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

• Provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified. Process systems, structures and components.
• Perform thermal hydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
• Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants; e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, and System Code Classification.
• Prepare and/or review Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
• Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
• Ensure adherence to company quality program.
• Ensure adherence to project delivery requirements and schedule.
• Interface with internal and external stake holders as required.

The ideal candidate:

• Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in process-system design/analysis.
• Experience performing heat balance and thermal hydraulic evaluations.
• Experience in process system design and layout. Process Flow Diagram and Process and Instrumentation diagram development.
• Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities is an asset.
• Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
• Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.1 codes. Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards and regulatory guides, including CSA N285.0 is an asset.
• Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design (e.g., Mathcad, Flo master, or similar).
• Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
