Job Description

The Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a Senior Financial Associate (Full-time, Non-exempt) in the Department of Nuclear Engineering.

Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Associate position reports to the Assistant Business Manager and provides assistance to faculty, students, and staff by performing necessary fiscal functions of the unit. This position will represent the department in a professional manner, often dealing with individuals and organizations external to the university. The position is responsible for processing accounting and personnel transactions compliant with UT policy and will reconcile and evaluate the accuracy of the departmental monthly account ledgers and sponsored research accounts.

This position works directly with the Office of Research OSP/FMC personnel for pre-award and post-award management. It is expected that this position will work closely with faculty in the monitoring of sponsored project spending; ensures all supporting documentation is provided; offers initial review of budget projections, account close-out, need for contract modifications, etc. to ensure compliance and monitor accounts for overspending. The position also provides guidance for internal transfer transactions to properly record allocations and posting corrections with applicable cost transfer form approvals from Sponsored Project Accounting.

Additionally, this role assists the department by processing and reconciling travel and accounts payable invoices, maintaining cost vs. budget forecasting, and project-specific financial reporting. The position is also responsible for assisting in proposal preparation and review, post-award preparation of project extension, re-budget, subcontract, and closeout documentation. This position provides support for compliance and financial analysis for externally funded grants and contracts, and acts as a primary resource for guidance and direction for Principal Investigators (PIs).

Qualifications

Minimum/Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with 4+ years of experience in accounting
  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication, customer service and organization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize a heavy workload.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on needs of others and with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and protection of sensitive information
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred with 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred with accounting experience. Experience in academic environment
  • Knowledge of state and federal contract and grant financial requirements
  • Knowledge of Oracle/DASH
  • Working Knowledge of UT fiscal policies and procedures

Compensation and Benefits
  • UT market range: 07
  • Anticipated hiring range: 40,000 - 45,000
