Overview
The Utility Technician III - Infrastructure is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position,
Responsibilities
• Repair and maintain water distribution and wastewater collections systems
• Operate backhoe and large excavation equipment
• Apply knowledge of water or wastewater material types, fillings, specifications, tolerances in a manner consistent with the required task.
• Train employees for CDL and proper equipment operation
• Protect public health and safety & water quality through application of proper TCEQ construction, repairs, & maintenance standards; Ensure proper dosing & disinfection of water mains & repair material
• Review, interpret, & train crew members on maps, plans, drawings; May serve as a crew lead in the absence of a Crew Leader
• Create permits for street cuts & confined space entry, ensure traffic control plans, trench safety, & worksite safety practices are followed
• Coordinate installation of well point and bypass pumps
• Create work orders, log time, material, equipment, and work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Provide customer service while performing responsibilities
• Coordinate activities on the job site with engineers, construction inspectors, other City departments, and external customers
• Train new employees to perform wastewater system maintenance, cleaning, and videoing (CCTV)
• Plan and lead installation of large volume commercial and residential meter
• Train staff to install, program, and maintain AMR components
• Train staff to perform water service turn-off and turn-on duties for residential, commercial and industrial customers
• Lead and train staff to properly investigate and mitigate issues reported on the water distribution and wastewater collection systems when the crew lead is absent
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Rotating 40-hour work week, must be available to work additional hours as needed. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School/ GED
• Three (3) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Any one of the following licenses listed:
o TCEQ Class D Water
o Class D Wastewater
o Class I Collections
o Class D Distribution

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:
• Criminal Background Check: Yes
• Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes
• Drug Screening: Yes
• Physical Exam: Yes
Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
