FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)
Work Hours: Core business hours Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m; occasional after hours during emergencies
Probationary Period: 180 Days
Salary: Negotiable depending on qualifications/experience (median $66,000 for Mechanic 1; median $78,000 for Mechanic 2)

JOB DUTIES:
Repairs, replaces, inspects, and monitors heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and high voltage (120 volts to 460 volts) electrical service. Monitors and makes recommendations for good air quality control. Assists in the installation of new heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment. Repairs or replaces thermostats, filters, fans, and motors and welds materials as necessary. Assists in the Installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical service and equipment; (e.g. heating and cooling motors, appliances, wiring, fans, lighting, etc.) Assists with providing HVAC and high voltage electrical service and equipment to other employees engaged in the support of HVAC/electrical repairs. Reads blue prints, assists in providing cost estimates, recommends and purchases appropriate materials, maintains inventory of equipment and materials, completes required reports, assists outside vendors. Assists in the performance of preventative maintenance on HVAC and electrical equipment, checking for needed and anticipated repairs in compliance with blueprints, specifications, and manufacturer's recommendations. Recommends and keeps informed of energy savings technology. Promotes and implements energy efficient and retrofit programs. Performs general county facility maintenance work including, but not limited to; general carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work; snow removal; grounds keeping, etc. Works alone or with other persons in short- or long-term team projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of county operations or to complete assigned projects at the direction of any county supervisor or Department Head when assigned. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in area of cross-training as necessary. New and other related duties as assigned. Reports safety/risk management issues to immediate supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School education or equivalent (GED). Certification to handle CFC and knowledge to document CFC activities desired. Position requires a minimum of two years' experience for HVAC 1 and a minimum of five years experience for HVAC 2 in the following areas: General knowledge of heating and cooling technology, installation of new equipment, repair and troubleshoot existing equipment, interpretation of technical materials. Knowledge of installation and maintenance of related electrical equipment, skilled in blueprint reading, ability to problem solve. Must be able to cooperate with co-workers on group projects. In the work environment, safety and/or health may be a factor (e.g., exposure to dirt, dust, varying temperatures and dangerous equipment). The work involves moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, stooping and bending. Working in close proximity to motorized equipment and tools require normal vision and hearing acuity. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
