Job Description
The Division of Oil, Gas and Mining is looking to hire a Deputy Division Director for its Oil and Gas Program. This isn't just any leadership position; it's a pivotal role that will heavily influence the direction and success of the program.
The person in this role will provide senior leadership, they'll be a key decision-maker and guide the team. They'll also contribute strategic vision, helping to set long-term goals and a clear path forward for the Oil and Gas Program. Beyond leadership, they'll offer technical support to the Division Director, drawing on their expertise to assist with complex issues. Ultimately, this individual will play a crucial part in the development of Utah's energy industry, shaping policies and practices that impact the state's energy future.

Responsibilities
As a Deputy Division Director you will:
- Provide strategic vision and goals for the Oil and Gas Program.
- Develop and implement oil and gas-specific rulemaking and policy.
- Represent the Oil and Gas Program before the Board, Legislature, and other organizations.
- Offer technical and administrative support to the Division Director.
- Oversee and ensure the completion of program-specific goals.
- Assist the Division Director with the day-to-day operations of the Oil and Gas Program, including developing and coordinating plans, policies, programs, projects, and resources in alignment with the Division's mission and goals.
- Supervise Oil and Gas staff, covering operations, data management, and various specialized groups within the program.
- Support the Division Director with personnel actions, including hiring, corrective, and disciplinary actions.
- Serve as a primary Oil and Gas resource for management.
- Represent the Oil and Gas Program to federal, state, and local government entities, as well as private organizations.
- Participate as a member of the Division Management and Legislative Teams.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a field related to the oil and gas industry, natural resources, or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent amount of directly related work experience.
- Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices in:
- Personnel management and development
- Project management
- Excellent written communication skills, leading to clear and concise correspondence.
- Ability to strengthen and promote teamwork and employee development, fostering mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.
- Demonstrated professionalism.
- Consistent follow-through on directions, guidance, and program goals.
- Understanding of the legislative process.
- Ability to effectively work with legislators and other political entities/individuals.
- Experience facilitating or leading hearings, meetings, teams, or work groups to encourage participation, respect, and cooperation among participants.

Special Working Conditions or Physical Requirements:
- This position primarily operates in a typical office setting, which is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. Standard office risks apply (e.g., safe use of equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations).
- The work is primarily sedentary, but may involve some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.
- A valid driver's license is required to operate a motor vehicle on highways in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
