Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions: Installs, repairs, and maintains refrigeration, heating and air conditioning equipment; places equipment in operation and tests for satisfactory operation; designs, plans, and installs new heating/air conditioning systems in existing buildings; adjusts pumps, building automation controls, humidifiers, filters, and valves to obtain maximum efficiency in operation; lubricates machinery and recharges system with refrigerant; examines equipment to detect and correct defects such as leakage and faulty compressors and condensers; provides advice on use of equipment to other departments; performs load calculations for City building projects; inspects and ensures correct completion of jobs by contractors; cleans and maintains tools and equipment; maintains inventory of items used in maintenance and repair work; supervises subordinates in the absence of supervisor.

Working Conditions
This position requires 100% on-site work. Must be able to work 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday; subject to call-back after 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, on weekends and holidays; works inside and outside in all kinds of weather, on ladders at various heights, and in trenches/ditches; exposed to electrical and mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, dust/mites hazards, chemical hazards and gas vapors; exposed to constant noise.
Minimum Essential Qualifications
Knowledge: Knowledge of standard practices, methods, and tools used in installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning and heating equipment; knowledge of the principles and practices of electricity as applied to air conditioning and heating; knowledge of relevant City codes; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment common to the trade; in the ability to install, adjust, maintain, and repair air conditioning, heating equipment and controls; ability to read and interpret sketches and blueprints; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees (must be able to distinguish colors) and hears; frequently drives, climbs, kneels, squats, stands, stoops, twists body, walks and lifts objects weighing up to 75 lbs., uses a calculator, crawls, carries up to 50 lbs., pulls and pushes up to 100 lbs., and holds up to 25 lbs. Infrequently writes by hand and drags 100 lbs.; infrequently cleans, sits, and sorts.
Education/Experience: Graduation from high school required. Formal training and/or vocational courses in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration preferred. Must have a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial and/or light industrial heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; must possess and provide evidence of EPA approved certification as a "Technical Type Universal"; must possess and provide evidence of "Certificate of Registration For the Purchase of Refrigerants & Equipment; as issued by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation.

This position requires 100% on-site work. Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered.
